Thanks Der Trihs and Jragon. I will consider both points. What is the Doper WoW guild like? How many players? Mixed time zones or do they play at pretty regular times? Are members expected to actively contribute to quests and such? (Like kjckjc, where were you last night? We were getting Cecil his mount and really could have used your help, don’t let it happen again.) I see from a quick look at wikipedia that it supports both text and voice chat, what do Doper use? I see you can have like 50 chars spread across the servers, do people usually maintain large numbers of chars? Do people typically level up one char (say a mage or it’s WoW equiv.) to around 50+ and then start a fighter, or generally rotate out 6 or 7 chars all at once? In your experience are there many true newbies playing or are most of the ones you see some guys 2nd char (or 8th) that he is just starting up? Does WoW encourage power leveling and buffbots or do they have controls in place to prevent it? Errr…ok..I think that is all for now.

Our guild I can’t give you a good number on, since we have soo many bleeding alts just quoting that number will leave a bad number (I think that number is over 80 by now, we have nowhere near that many people). We can have up to a good 15 on at once, hardly a giant guild but not tiny. We do often dip (especially on week days and late nights) to about 3 or so. It heavily depends on the day, prior arrangements etc. Most quests can’t be “actively contributed” to, most quests like that are instances and can only be done by that level. If all else fails we’ll pick up someone from outside the guild, maybe we’ll jokingly berate you the next day but we’re good natured. Any quest involving a lot of money (i.e. a Warlock epic mount) is more of a personal thing and falls under the rules of “donations appreciated” noone’s gonna force you to do anything.
We don’t use the in game voice chat. We have a ventrillo server, but mostly we use the in game text chat.
The next questions rely heavily on person. I tend to make tons of characters and then wind up on one or two regularly. Some people keep all of their characters relatively the same, and some people focus totally on one and either never make an alt or make one when their main is completely decked out.
Powerleveling, as in paying a service or using a bot to level is strictly prohibited under the Terms of Use and EULA and is a bannable offense. Powerleveling as in using a guide, grinding, or playing 24/7 is, no matter how unhealthy for you, completely within reason and many people do it. Any sort of automization script is also prohibited so no buff bots, the best you’re getting are a handful of UI mods that automize tiny aspects of the game, though many of these are broken by patches, Blizz tends to take a no crap approach to removing player interaction (for the most part).
We didn’t tell the guy- he would have been pissed…
