As of patch 3.0.8, World of Warcraft now supports 3-D. Given that I can’t upgrade my notebook computer for that hardware, I’m going to have to experience this one vicariously.
So. Has anyone tried it?

Call me back when dark elf chicks in Lineage II are in 3-D.
I wish I had money I could just throw at a neat toy like that. But if I did, I’d throw that money into my cars…
I’m getting a new computer, but I’m really debating between getting a 120Hz monitor (only two in existence right now, both limited to 16801050) and that, or getting a nice 19201080 monitor. If you guys convince me 3D is cooler than a really pretty resolution I’ll tell you how it is when I get it in.
Don’t bother. Although most people agree it’s certainly cool, right now it’s not universally supported for one, and even when supported glitches and UI problems mar an otherwise cool experience.
Wait until the next gen of hardware and DX 11 for this to take off. There Is a performance hit with the technology as well. I’d definitely go with the 24" + 1920 x1200 monitor instead.
I would agree.
WoW is phenomenal in 1920x1200 with all graphics maxxed.
Oh, yeah. I got my 24" iMac and cranked every setting up to full, and it felt like a different game. There are some interesting macros floating around out there that will turn up some options you can’t get from the control panel, too.
There was an article on WowInsider a while back about how to push all of your settings to, literally, eleven. Here’s the link…
http://www.wowinsider.com/2008/04/24/macro-for-a-prettier-wow/
and here are the two macros you can create. Note that you should create both macros and put them on an alternate button bar before trying the big one so that you can shut the video back down to normal human range even if you lock your video up completely.
First macro:
Big video:
/console groundEffectDensity 256
/console groundEffectDist 200
/console detailDoodadAlpha 100
/console horizonfarclip 2112
/console farclip 999
/console characterAmbient
Second macro:
Little Video:
/console groundEffectDensity 16
/console groundEffectDist 1
/console horizonfarclip 1305
/console farclip 177
/console characterAmbient 1
/console smallcull 1
/console skycloudlod 1
/console detailDoodadAlpha 1
Here’s a review of the 3d stuff. I thought some may like to read it.

I wonder,
Would 3D give a player any sort of advantage in an FPS?
Well, you can’t look around objects. The only real advantage would be that it’s marginally easier to judge distances, but games have had that limitation for so long and have handled distance on a monitor so well it doesn’t really matter.
