World of Warcraft questions

They did. It was a bug, and they hotfixed it.

Let your mouse float over the “smiley” on the top left hand corner of your pet’s “charsheet” (default shortcut is P, but you must have the pet out). It will display a tooltip indicating what does he eat.

Gnomes have relatively few quests that give rep with them as primaries, but almost every quest for other alliance factions give rep with them (the exception are low level quests which apparently nobody got around to fixing, the ones for draenei give rep for every subfaction). Quests that give rep with Ironforge always give half-rep with the Gnomes.

In Ironforge you can also fish in the pool in the Mystic Quarter, although that’s an area with higher traffic so you’re more likely to fish one of those morons who enjoy jumping on top of the bobber.

They are the messengers - there is a quest to kill them at some point - have fun with that!!

The horde messengers travel from Hammerfall, and go all the way to Tarren Mill (Hillsbrad).

The Alliance mounted patrol (The Arathi Light Horse) travels from Refugee Point to Stromgarde Keep and back.

Do you not have NPC names turned on? I always knew to stay away by the big red names over their heads

I did the same thing when I first played in that area. I had thus far been doing well against NPC enenmies and figured that they’d never catch me anyway.

I hate it when they knock me off of my mount. :frowning:

I love those little surprises (raise hands anyone who’s been ganked by the Son of Arugal, while we’re on the subject). I mean, I hate them at the time, but it’s fun to occasionally get thrown off of your pull, fight, rest, repeat rhythm once in a while.

Ah, Stiches. I’m coming back for you!

Yeah, that is kind of fun in a perverse way. It was awhile ago for me, but I still remember running around there killing level 15 mobs, and suddenly–BAM!–death by 27 Elite! Yikes!

My favorite story about unexpected surprises, though, will always be my first real character, a human rogue. The spouse and I were questing together, and we’d made it to Duskwood. I love that area–very spooky and atmospheric–and we were working our way through a long quest chain. We’d gotten some quest item (I don’t even remember anymore what it was–I haven’t played Alliance in 2 years) and turned it in to a little old man inside a shack at Raven Hill Cemetery. Then we just stood around there for a bit, inside the shack; can’t remember what we were doing–talking about something, organizing bags, whatever. Anyway, we turn to leave and…nearly had heart attacks when we saw this…THING…outside the door to the shack. Level 30 or so elite! Yow! Where the hell did that thing come from? Remember, we’d never played Horde before and never even SEEN an abomination, let alone a level 30 elite one! Those things are mighty freaky looking and scary when you’ve never seen one before!

Anyway, of course Stitches one-shotted us both and then went on his way. I still look fondly on that, because it was one of the few genuine frights I ever got in the game. Sometimes I miss the days when everything was new.

Nowadays whenever my blood elf mage runs through Duskwood, I make it a point to help lowbies kill Stitches (or even kill him myself, if nobody’s around) in payback for that long-ago fright.

/raise

I was running a guildie through Shadowfang Keep (SFK) and on the way there, I went and killed one of those jerks just because I could.

By the way, my level 80 undead warlock was grinding Argent Dawn rep recently* and I wasn’t paying attention where I was riding in Eastern Plaguelands (EPL) because hey, I’m 80, right? And I rode up the path towards Strat? Through that bottleneck in the mountains there? Yeah. I rode right into the Scarlet Courier (?) and the escort group. Not through, into, because they unhorsed me. Bunch of lvl 60-something elites, paladins, damned near kicked my rear. God, I hate those. Meanwhile I’d spanked them all with my lvl 77 feral tank druid not long before, just because I could.

  • Yes, I saw the patch message that indicates that now you can get full rep for minor kills when you couldn’t before. I hit Exalted before this patch went through. Yes, I’m bitter.

One thing lowbies should know about Stitches, since they probably don’t have a mount…the Fat fucker can run pretty fast when he has to.

Nope. In fact, half the time I don’t have player names turned on either — I’ve gotten in the habit of turning them off when I enter Stormwind or Ironforge, especially if I’m planning to visit the bank or auction house, to cut the lag a little bit (not sure if it actually helps) and also so I can actually see the auctioneer or banker. Then I forget to turn them back on.

I’ve got a couple new gripes:

• When a quest sends me into a specific location to kill a specific number of a specific mob, it would be cool if the game would actually spawn that many. I’m talking about Dun Modr, in this case. I had to kill 5 each of 4 different kinds of Dark Iron Dwarves, including 5 Dark Iron Demolitionists. There were far more than 5 each of the first three kinds of DID’s, but despite the fact that I managed to go through the whole place and kill everything before any of them respawned, I found a grand total of 2 Demolitionists in the whole place. So I had to wait around, killing other dwarves as they respawned, waiting for 2 more Demolitionists to appear (they always seemed to spawn in pairs) and then repeat the whole process while I waited for 2 more to spawn so I could get #5.

• I can’t believe the way my druid (now lvl 23) chews through the mana. If I try to use spells as her primary attack, she’s got enough mana to take out a grand total of two close-level enemies before she has to sit down and drink. Her primary attack sequence is Entangling Roots followed by Moonfire and then Wrath until the mob dies. I have her fight in cat form whenever possible, but there are some places where spellcasting from a distance is the better option. She’s the only spellcaster I’ve played extensively - is it like this for the other casting classes?

There I was - a lowly holy priest, wending my way through the shadowy hell of Duskwood.

I see this thing coming along the road, barreling after no one I could see.

I quickly move off the road, not wanting to get in his way.

Evidently, the other side of the fence was still in his way.

Death, oh merciless death.:smack:

Yesterday, I returned, a victorious priest of great (imagined) renowned on my magnificient beast, staring him down as he stumbled towards me, daring him to strike me as I stood directly in his path.

He ghosted through me and disappeared.

Blizzard, oh merciless Blizzard. No vengeance did I win this day.:smack:

There is another (outdoor) area, off to the east past the raptors, with a bunch of DID’s (as well as the named leader you’re supposed to get an ear off of). Plenty available to get your quota (although they are packed into their camps a little tight. Carefull with your pulls).

Yes. As you level, you new (higher) rank of spells cost more mana to cast. If you don’t gear up to compensate, you will suffer a little bit from that.

Heh. I happened to be in Darkshire yesterday when Stitches came lumbering into town. So I got to jump into the dogpile of players and guards trying to take him down. And take him down we did :stuck_out_tongue:

But speaking of helping lowbies … I’d give them some advice about asking for help: don’t stand around watching while I’m trying to single-handedly take down some big Elite, and then hit me with a group invite the instant I’ve beaten him and whisper me with “can u help us?” It’s bad enough getting invites from people you don’t even know are there because they haven’t bothered to say anything or even show themselves. But to stand there watching while I fight a tough opponent and then ask me to help :dubious: C’mon, if you’re scared to jump into the fight, then stand back and hit me with a buff or something. I’ll be far more inclined to help you out afterward.

I just finished fighting Lar’ Korwi, a lvl 56 dinosaur foe in the Ganking Hole…I mean Un’ Goro crater. It was a fun fight but at level 51 with my hunter I almost lost it. If my pet didn’t hold aggro at the last bit of the fight it would have ended badly.

But the hardest part of the quest for me was not taking advantage of target of opportunity. I came across 2 alliance players of close or equal levels and one three levels under me seperately fighting monsters in my travels in the Ganki…Un’Goro Crater. I was tempted to attack them, especially when they were low on mana andf health, but I declined. Mainly because I wanted to finish my quest without having one of them follow me around trying to get payback.

Which was really hard since some lvl “??” rode up to the troll temple place in the hinterlands and killed me and my friend just for the kill. We saw him coming up the stairs and were about to leave the area we were in anyway, as all we had left to do was kill Priestess Hexx. we did that and were preparing to ride to Raventusk when the guy came back with two other guys and killed us again. Man, I am going to be such a dick to alliance players when I reach 80. If I had tomorrow off I’d stay up late and go to Westfall and gank people just for catharsis.

I did help a lowbie player earlier though when he was being overwhelmed by the insects in Un’Goro. Why he was trying to travel there at lvl 40 I dunno…he must have died a million times just getting there.

Relevant webcomic. The whole comic is entertaining, but your last post made me think of that particular strip, Roger.

Right now I’m trying to get the Ice Barbed Spear, which is attained by winning one battle in Alterac Valley. All the comments on Wowhead make it sound like this is child’s play, even at level 51. …Yeah, well, guess who’s been on the losing side 5 for 5? I’ve been in two matches where the Alliance wasn’t grossly outnumbered (I’m talking 15-20 Alliance to 40 Horde, here), and when we were evenly matched we got stomped anyway. Since I’m in the 51-60 bracket, at level 52 I’m outgunned by nearly everyone I come across. Dispiriting, to say the least. I’m tempted to ignore it and power on through to 60, when I can go to the Outlands and pick up better equipment, but…one win, that’s all it should take, right? :frowning:

At what times are you playing, Bosstone? During peak hours, we’ve been 50/50 in just about every 51-60 AV I’ve tried. Off peak varies a bit. Maybe save it for the weekend? Some battlegroups are just one-sided, unfortunately. My primary Horde server gets stomped by Alliance in everything except AV. My primary Alliance server gets stomped by Horde in everything except AV. I just have that kind of luck, I guess :stuck_out_tongue: My secondary servers are a bit more even, though.

Not for Warlocks as you have a spell, Life Tap, that will sacrifice health for mana and a spell, Drain Life, that will, well, drain health from a mob. Since I have gained these spells my Warlock usually finishes a fight on full mana.

I had my first experience grouped with people I don’t know last night, why did I leave it until recently to buy this excellent game? I am currently playing a paladin teamed up with a friend (also playing a paladin) and we’re in Westfall killing Defias. A Warlock (level 13 but didn’t have a pet I forgot to ask why) and a Warrior asked us to join them and we ended up in the Quarry (Gold Coast maybe??). What an amazing experience, should I heal the warrior or kill off that low on health Kobold, Hand of Protection time or too early? I read on forums that paladins can be dull yet I found it bewildering and fun. No idea how I will cope with more than 3 other people to keep an eye on.

A couple of questions:

Can I trade green items with other players? I didn’t win one Need roll last night.

Why wouldn’t a level 13 Warlock have a pet out? Could have been a phase shifted imp I guess.

Is Westfall harder than Ghostlands? So many areas where you can end up fighting 3 or more mobs, from what I remember of Ghostlands it was much easier to fight one at a time.

If an item is “bind on equipped” (BOE) than you can trade it as long as you don’t try to use it first. These are also great items for the AH!

If an item is “bind on pick-up” (BOP) you cannot trade it once it is in your posession - it will become soulbound to you.

If it doesn’t say BOE or BOP - than it is a neutral item and can be traded at any time. Those are pretty rare for a green. Usually they are a white.
