Oh, cool. I started a troll shaman, so I guess I’ll be familiar with the area by the time she gets there.
Now I’m getting frustrated with a quest given at The Crossroads. An NPC there sent me out to kill some Striders, which I found and killed. Then she sent me to kill some Zhevras, which I found and killed. Now she’s sent me to kill some Savannah Prowlers, which she insists are to the southwest of the Crossroads. I have ranged far and wide to the southwest, and all I find are Striders and Zhevras, and the occasional dinosaur-thingy and Sickly Gazelle. There are no Savannah Prowlers to be found anywhere. There are plenty of those Savannah Huntresses and their male counterparts to the northwest, but those don’t seem to count toward this quest.
Likewise, looking for those Lost Pools, which another questgiver says are to the northwest. I have searched the northwest quadrant out to a radius that’s probably the equivalent of a mile, and nothing.
Either way, I’ve killed a bunch of those centaur things. Even found a key that is supposed to open a Booty Chest, but I haven’t found a Booty Chest.
If I remember right…and I am not at all sure that I do…but I think the Lost Pools are at the top of that mountain near the oasis. Kinda dicey getting up there with all the aggressive mobs in the area.
I would have thought the pre Burning Crusade version (“Classic WoW”) the grayed out items would be “Blood Elf” and “Paladin” on the Horde side, and “Dranei” and “Shaman” on the Alliance.
Wrath of the Lich King does introduce the Death Knight class, but has no new races.
The Forgotten (not Lost) Pools are an oasis that’s about halfway between Crossroads and the zone border to the west of Crossroads. You can kind of see it from the road, to your right.
The savannah prowlers out that way count for that hunting quest as well. They all drop the claws. But make sure it’s savannah prowlers…there’s another male lion type that doesn’t count. The prowlers are in the brush by themselves. The other male lions are around the trees, mixed with the huntresses.
That’s Dreadmist Peak, which figures into the end quests of the chain that starts with Fizzle’s Claw and also a quest from Ashenvale. The Forgotten Pools is the oasis west of Crossroads.
I don’t know if the character generation screen used to be different, but currently it only displays the classes which your selected race can choose. If you choose anything but a Night Elf on the Alliance side, for example, you won’t even see the Druid icon. So Shaman wouldn’t be shown as a greyed out option, because you wouldn’t even be able to select Draenei to see it. On the other side of the coin, all races can be Death Knights, so you’ll see that option no matter what race you choose, but if you don’t have Lich King and a 55 character it’ll be greyed. So the only three options that are greyed out with classic WoW are Draenei, Blood Elf, and Death Knight.
Hmmm…I’d like to know how to get to Fiora Longears. The boat to Kalimdor drops you off at the opposite side of the continent from where the quest is. My lvl 31 rogue could probably trek across the continent, but Questhelper estimated the time spent would take 48 minutes. Thats vnot including the times he’d probably be killed along the way.
If you’re having trouble finding a certain NPC or quest objective (and don’t want an addon like Questhelper) there are a few good websites to check. Wowhead, Wowwiki and Thottbot all have entries on every quest that can give you hints about where to go.
Is Questhelper Windows-only? I’m playing on a Mac, and didn’t find it listed at my favorite Mac software site. I have discovered the sites mentioned here, though.
Okay, I found QuestHelper and got it installed (just now, so I haven’t tried it out yet). Thanks
On another topic, I’m kind of puzzled about the graphics end of things. During normal play, I’ve got the video set at 24-bit 4X resampling (the highest setting), and everything is hunky dory on my new 2.4GHz iMac. Hunky dory, that is, until I die. Something changes when everything goes spooky grayscale; I suddenly find it very difficult to control the direction of my ghost - the motion gets all jerky and trying to make a minor course correction a couple degrees one way or the other ends up turning me 90 degrees (even the music starts stuttering). This was particularly noticeable when my night elf died and turned into a Wisp. I actually had to call up the video settings and shift down to 24-bit, 1X resampling.
Couple minor complaints about character death in general:
Why do all the graveyards have to be such freakin’ obstacle courses to get out of?
Why in the world does my dead night elf’s flying wisp have to jump over obstacles just like any other non-wisp ghost? For that matter, why do any of the ghosts have to go around/over obstacles? Shouldn’t a ghost be able to just walk through everything?
They can’t walk through stuff because of exploits and such (i.e. spawning where you shouldn’t be able to get).
In the video options there should be a box marked “turn off death effects” which takes away the weird grey (blue?) scale and spirally sky and whatnot.
Because you’re alliance and they REALLY like their graveyards. As an Undead I feel you though, that Brill graveyard was a nightmare, I’m much more happy with the traditional horde “circle of stepping stones.”
