Worldmark timeshares

What are your experiences involving Worldmark timeshares in particular? Responses I don’t want need are:

  1. “All timeshares are bad!!”, and
  2. discussions about other timeshare programs.
    Highlights, lowlights etc. are welcome.

Straight Dope is probably too small a community to have any experience with this particular company. But there are many timeshare forums available:

Well, the commenters at consumeraffairs.com sure have strongly negative opinions. A common theme seems to be that people have found they got signed up for a credit card they weren’t aware of and other shady paperwork tricks.

We took over a friends worldmark timeshare to help her out when she was in difficulty.

It was good when we were doing a lot of traveling in the States, but we have not been traveling a lot lately and like any timeshare really its a waste of money unless you use it lots. We mostly let friendcuse it now it seems.

The good:
The facilities have all been good to great. Plenty of great locations in the US. Usually have kitchenettes, sitting areas, very comfortable. Had some really nice stays.

Not so great:
I am less enthusiastic about visiting the states now and they don’t have a lot of facilities in Canada for example.

The bad:
There is always up selling pressure, there are sales people in the lobby most locations who will try to trick you into their bullshit free presentation. What ever deal you get there will be pressure to give them more money.

Its very difficult to get out of. You are basically stuck with the contract unless you can unload on someone else. There are law firms that specialize in getting people out of the contract.
