I have recently become addicted to Sluggy Freelance (www.sluggy.com), and I want you all to be addicted too. So get over there already! Start at the beginning for maximum enjoyment. If you don’t, I’ll sic Bun-Bun on you.
I like pie. Do you like pie?
Yeah, I guess it’s pretty nifty. So nifty, that I’m on a several-month-long waiting list for a stuffed Bun-Bun from the online store.
I’ve been reading Sluggy since 1999 - I wish I could say I was a devoted reader since it started in August 97, but, eh, whatcha gonna do. It’s by far my favorite comic, either online or off, and the recent Fire & Rain storyline was incredible.
One of the things that I like about Sluggy is that Pete (the artist) uses the flexibility of a webcomic to his advantage, much like some of the better dead-tree comics occasionally do. While he’ll usually have the panel-panel-panel-punchline format, he branches out into less traditional forms of panel format - something you very rarely, if ever, see in a newspaper. Look at this and this for two quick examples. Yes, a traditional comic could do this in a Sunday strip - maybe - but a webcomic removes many, many boundaries.
Now, if he’ll just resolve the Oasis thread, and the Aylee thread, and the heretiCorp thread, and the Well of Souls thread, and and and and and.
(And maybe have Sasha and Zoe in a bikini mud-wrestling match. With Gwynn and Oasis as their tag-team partners. Awwww yeah.)
I loved the Lego Series. Bun-Bun rocks completely.
Here’s a question that’s never been answered. Is Zoe supposed to be a really pretty girl? Or is it just by opinion of the reader?
I get the impression that Zoe is pretty but not stylin’, she doesn’t have the latest clothes and hair and whatever. Which is cool by me. One of my favorite storylines is the Stormbreaker Saga, wherein Zoe and Torg save the future from the present by going to the past, or something… Last year’s Halloween party was pretty hilarious, with everyone wearing Diablo II costumes.
Yeah, but now we have to put up with a month of Joe Sunday stuff. Not sure if that’s better or worse than Stick-Guy Tom.
And I thought the “substitute artists’ jam” when Pete’s wife had the baby was awesome.
I was on the bun-bun waiting list too. I had no idea how huge that thing was until it came in the mail. It’s really cool.
Well, it’s just a week of Joe Sunday, and then three weeks of other nonstandard things. One of the weeks will be fan-created strips. Word on the street is that another week is a guest artist. I pray the last week is not Shirt-Guy Tom.
Maybe it was just me, but I hated the Bruno the Bandit guest artist. His comic is funny, don’t get me wrong, but … Torg and Zoe and Riff weren’t supposed to look like that! (Kiki possessed by Ayn Rand was great, though.)
What, you didn’t like Riff’s Jawbone of Doom[sub]TM[/sub]?
I’ve been reading Sluggy for two years now. Pete’s actually a really cool guy–I’ve sent him a couple of emails and gotten personal reponses.
I bought a Winux 2004 T-shirt, and it’s fun to wear it to work on Fridays (I work in IT) and watch lusers try to figure out if it’s a real OS.
I also have two rabbits. Occasionally I pat them down for Glocks and switchblades.
I got the stuffed Bun-Bun for MrWhatsit for Christmas. He had no idea such a thing even existed, and was suitably impressed.
I’m still trying to catch up with back episodes. I’ve made it to the middle of the year 2000 and am gaining fast, so hopefully I’ll be all caught up by maybe sometime in the middle of next month.
I did a marathon and read them all in about 2 weeks. Not recommended unless you are a slacker.
