A recent thread soliciting Doper opinions on the worst chain restaurant was either deleted or moved to a mod/admin forum. Why?
Really? Hmmm … surely that subject matter is not taboo?
Tre weird, indeed.
It wasn’t the subject, it was the poster who initiated the thread.
When we ban a sock puppet, or a multiple-guest, or a banned person trying to sneak back in, we usually destroy all the threads they have started. We try to kill all their posts, too, but that’s often too difficult. We realize that this is sometimes an inconvenience for the general members, but if we leave the posts up, that’s a
“reward” for these jerks. So, the deal is, if you try to return when you oughtn’t, anything you do will be trashed. So don’t bother.
In this case, the poster who initiated the thread was a returning banee (or female banshee). The thread was therefore “disappeared.”
I will discuss with the other Moderators whether we can make an exception, since the thread was three pages long.
Makes sense. I know you can’t delete an OP post without deleting the entire thread. It’s possible to split a thread, though; the sock OP deleted while a new thread with legitimate member posts remains.
The SDMB has been having a hell of a time lately with socks, it seems.
While I don’t doubt that this is possible, I have a hunch that it would be an awful lot of work, both for the moderators and the Board itself. Just moving a thread used to thrash the entire board for five minutes at a time; that’s since improved, but then, this is more involved than moving a thread, too. So I’ll understand entirely if the Mods opt not to go this route.
Chronos, if you want to start a new thread, I will try to go through the next couple of days and prune and bring some of the posts from the earlier thread into the new thread. It’ll be a screwed up order, of course, since the posts from the old thread will have their old dates. And I probably won’t get around to this before the weekend.
Alternately, just start a new thread altogether. And people can repeat themselves, like history. We’re sorry about this, but the Mods really do not want this small-potatoes jerk to get any more attention.
Oh so is that what’s happening when I try to follow email links back to thread I posted in but get “you don’t have permission at access…”? I just spent 15 minutes running the search engine trying to find out where the ‘Why not “stick it” to the Republicans with civil unions?’ thread was moved to.
Hooters.
All of them, except In-n-Out–because In-n-Out is the only major burger chain I can think of that treats its employees like people.
Also, their shakes and burgers and fries rock.
That’s OK, Dex, I’d rather not start a precedent which would create more work for you guys. But thanks for the offer.
