Worst Looking Trophy in Sports

whaddaya mean “looks like”?

The Schneider Trophy (which has a fascinating history over its years) nevertheless is rather strange. Even for a racing seaplane competition.

The basic design of the Borg-Warner Trophy, awarded to the winner of the Indianapolis 500, has a nice Art Deco look. But I think they made a mistake by sticking the sculpted faces of the winners on the side. First, they make it look a little too busy. Second, there was only room for 70 faces on the original trophy; they had to add a base in 1986 with room for another 64 faces. What do they intend to do after 2050? Another added base? It’s rather kludgy. Finally, from what I’ve seen of the drivers I know, the sculptures don’t look much like them.

There is only one Borg-Warner Trophy, and it’s kept at the museum at the Speedway. The winners get an 18-inch replica (known as a Baby Borg) that doesn’t have the faces. I think it looks much classier.

That’s like weird fantasy porn.
