Smallest and largest professional sporting trophies

The smallest must surely be The Ashes.

As for the biggest, the largest one I can think of is the Stanley Cup, but surely there must be larger ones.

Incidentally, the winning team’s roster is engraved on the Stanley Cup every year, requiring the periodic addition of new “tiers”. Thus, even if this trophy isn’t currently the biggest, it will eventually beat out all other fixed-sized trophies.

The oldest tiers of the Stanley Cup are retired to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Soccer’s World Cup is surprisingly tiny, and isn’t even a cup for that matter.

I’m, not sure where this golf trophy is on the size-meter, but its a doozy.

(Yeah, I know it’s old, but I did it anyway.)

Bearflag, that is a great photo. She looks extremely pleased with the size of that particular trophy!

The Cup is now the size it will always be. They remove rings from the bottom as they add new ones; currently, the lists of winning teams only goes back to the 50s.

Well, I stand corrected, doubly.

Now that is the sort of “zombie-reviving-post-by-a-noob” that makes all the others worthwhile.

Thanks, danielfairborn. Welcome to the Straight Dope.

Largest big game hunting trophy, an elephant. Largest fishing trophy, a blue whale.

Actually the Stanley Cup is just the bowl that sits on top of the rings. And the current ‘bowl’ is the third of its kind, a reproduction made in GB. The first two having been worn out and dented and eventually retired to the HOF. (Btw the Stanley Cup is the oldest trophy in professional team sports.)

The largest sports trophy I can think of is the full-size grandfather clock that the winner of a NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Martinsville gets.

I agree that the smallest is almost certainly The Ashes. Speaking of which, did they ever determine once and for all just what was burned to create the original Ashes? I have heard both “a bail” and “a ball”. (IIRC, Diana, Princess of Wales, once said that she thought it was the remains of one side’s players from the original series.)

The America’s Cup (yacht racing), at four feet, is taller than the Stanley Cup (35.25 inches).

But my nomination for the tallest, biggest, heaviest, most valuable trophy is the Borg Warner Trophy, awarded to the winner of the Indianapolis 500, at just under 5 ft 4" inches tall and weighs nearly 153 pounds of sterling silver.

I think the winner has to be the Canadian Football league’s Grey Cup. Just take a look at this picture!

Since the only awards given at the Olympics medals, that would be their trophies, thus I would have to say they are the smallest.

They aren’t professional awards.
