Worst Movie Death Scenes

I nominate this one (you should skip the first three minutes—not sure why they are part of the clip) from Duel in the Sun: Jennifer Jones & Gregory Peck Classic finale from Duel in the Sun - YouTube

It’s almost hard to believe they intended this to be taken seriously; but the huge budget, the big stars, and everything I read about it indicates that it actually was so intended. And although the movie was generally (and justifiably) panned, Jones actually nabbed a Best Actress nom for this!

I rented this because it was Martin Scorsese’s first movie, and he still holds it in high regard. But holy crap, is it ever bad. Truly awful. Racist, sexist melodrama with absurdly overwrought dialogue and acting. Goes to show even a master can get an early impression of a movie and find it hard to shake after maturing.

The Room

I think Shatner’s death in Star Trek: Generations was pretty hokey.

Good picks.

Kirk’s really was such a sad swan song for that character. And not sad in the intended way.

Must have been a hot day. The sweating is nearly as bad as Striker from Airplane!

While there are plenty of dreadful death scenes, the very first that came to mind was Sean Connery in Untouchables.

Easily the Turkish film “Kareteci Kız”:

Starship Troopers
Yeah, I know, but one of the reasons it was so bad is the death scene of the girl Dizzy.
“It’s ok… if I die… cuz I got to… sleep with you… first… <death>”

The Brain that Wouldn’t Die (1962) - A classic

*Deadly Friend* (1986) - Death by basketball

NOTE: This is kinda violent and in accordance with the site’s “2-click rule,” I have separated the last two characters of the link.
Where the Spies Are (1966)

Françoise Dorléac’s death is certainly among the worst I’ve ever seen. Sadly, no VT vid. However, it was surpassed in Moonchild (2003) by the fact that intolerable pizza delivery man Toshi is still alive (and intolerable) even after doing his ridiculous death twitch (before dying for good).

Forgot one: Yoda in Return of the Jedi. Probably the single worst and needlessly prolonged death scene featuring a sock puppet ever.

Zhang Ziyi in* House of Flying Daggers* - possibly the longest, most overwrought death scene in movie history. She takes a flying dagger (natch) to the chest and just stands there, bleeding, for literally months. The seasons change, summer turns to fall, fall into winter, and still she stands there, mildly distraught look on her face and knife in her boob. It’s hilarious.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone heard Martin Scorsese just rip apart a movie? It seems he can find merit in nearly every film.

Incidentally, my father saw this movie when it was first released. He said it was by far the worst moviegoing experience he had in his then-young life.

That.

Was.

Awesome!

Marion Cotillard in The Dark Knight Rises. Made me laugh out loud when she snaps her eyes shut.

On the topic of The Dark Knight Rises, Bane’s death was pretty disappointing. A villain as epic as him deserved a remarkable death, and all he died from was just getting shot by a big gun.

Flight of the Phoenix, Ernest Borgnine wasn’t given much to do. A real waste of a great actor’s talent.

To kill him off, Ernie goes nuts and just runs away from the plane’s survivors into the brutal mid-day heat of the desert.

His dead body is seen as the homemade plane flys over the desert sand at the movies end.

I always snickered because it’s like the actor said, I’m sick of this picture. Call my agent! Get me the hell out of here!

I looked for Ernie’s death scene on YouTube. No luck.

I get the ‘oh my’. i know why he did it. Maybe if he smiled saying it (though that might make i even worse)…lemme think of a better line.

i can’t. Just scrap it and have him reiterate something about staying in the chair.

Padme in Revenge of the Sith.

Uh, she just lost the will to live? Dude, at least have it be that Anakin damaged her by force-choking her. She has two babies and loses the will to live.

Nice.

There is always this scene from Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow (1978):

+1.

Plus enhanced by what I assume is* a hamfisted appropriation of Avengers** chic. Wow.
