Worst ratings ever

Ha-ha!

It’s pathetic, really, that even with the hype and financial backing it had, the XFL can’t even outperform a network news special on American drug policy.

I loved Bob Costas’ remark about how the XFL combines mediocre high school football with the tawdry sensibility of a strip club.

More proof that you can dress up shit as much as you like, but all you’ll get is dressed-up shit.

Maybe “He Hate Me” should change his monicker to “They Hate Us.”

Who else watched besides me? I watched the WFL also. I
really need a life.

I watched it, and enjoyed it quite alot. I’d watch High School Football if they put it on TV. And I get tired of the silly generalizations by people who have no grasp of how football is played saying that the talent and skill level of the teams is patetic. No they aren’t as good as any pro teams, including Cincinnati, but they are comparable to most lower tier college squads.

The ratings thing is dissappointing, and I hope that the XFL gives it some time. I’m not sure how the contract with NBC/UPN/TNN is structured, but I hope theres room to try and tinker with it for the upcoming season.

The coverage has improved dramatically since the first few weeks. They’re phasing out the real jackass announcers, including Jesse, and that move alone makes the coverage improve ten fold. The football is the selling point, not the punks in the booth. They’ve gotten rid of some of the sillier ideas of miking and cameras when it didn;t work out. They tried alot of new things, and it was unfair to expect the first few weeks to be perfect, but unfortunatelty thats when everyone sampled the product, and they haven’t been back to give it another shot.

Damn, I want year round football!

I’m not a big sports fan, so I look at it from the broadcasting side.

It’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

Still, since the NCAA tournament was exceptional competition last weekend, it’s entirely possible that the ratings could go up a little when there’s no other sports to compete against the XFL.

To my way of thinking, this is totally unacceptable. After all, if you can’t be good at something, it’s better to be very, very bad than just mediocre.

The 1.6 rating the XFL got last weekend only TIES it with that ABC drug special as the worst-ever prime-time performance. Not enough. For the XFL to go down in history it must set an absolute record – no ties, no asterisks.

Therefore, I implore you to ask everyone you know who still watches XFL football (assuming you do know someone) to skip it for a week. Watch something else, go to Hooters, whatever. Just don’t turn the XFL on.

If enough people do that, the ratings will sink below the 1.6 level and the XFL will officially, definitively become the WORST PRIME TIME SHOW EVER. It will become famous. It will be included in reference books along with the Edsel, New Coke and the IBM PCjr.

Don’t let Vince McMahon and NBC down! This is their last chance to salvage anything from this flawed and failed venture.

Remember, failure is not an option! It must be failure on an unprecedented, massive scale.

In deference to your appeal, kunilou, I promise that this weekend I will treat the XFL with even more fervent apathy than I have up until now. If history must be made, then I’m entirely willing to fully do my part by doing something else.

However, once it’s on the books, I’m going to suggest my little blood-pack idea to Vince. Blooooood, yesss…

Or, if XFL watchers absolutely insist upon still watching, might I recommend that they all watch off of the same television set, preferably one not in a Neilson house. I’m sure there’s room in a small closet somewhere for all of them…

I take it you don’t live in Western Pennsylvania. High School games are on local cable access channels and also are broadcast on radio in some locations.

The last couple of years the WPIAL (Western Pennsylvania Intramural Athletic League) High School Championship games were broadcast on Fox Sports Pittsburgh. All 4 games (There are 4 divisions) were played at 3 Rivers Stadium.
