Worst Robin Williams movie?

Wow. For a while there it looked like it would be a tie between Patch Adams and Toys but we have a couple of dark horses in What Dreams May Come and Jumanji which I didn’t even think to include in the OP because I have seen neither and don’t remember hearing much about them, good or bad.

Since we are all bonding over this subject here I would like to take this time to mention that I really didn’t like Good Morning Vietnam as much as everyone else apparently did. Wasn’t very believable really, and all the good jokes were already in the commercials.

Another vote here for Patch Adams.

I’m going to vote on Awakenings as my worst Robin Williams movie, ever. I just don’t see him as a doctor (which may be why some of you all thought Patch Adams sucked, too). Plus, seeing Robert Deniro* drool on himself put me off the whole damn thing.

*It was Robert Deniro, wasn’t it?

Notice that no diabetics have contributed to this thread, they can’t watch Robin Williams movies.

Death To Smoochy was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.

No one said Father’s Day?

Personally, I thought that the visuals in What Dreams May Come* were enough to make up for the film’s other shortcomings. But I’ll agree with what Miller posted in his spoiler, and the dramatic change in appearance of his wife didn’t help much either.

As for Bicentenniel Man, I haven’t seen it, but the one person I talked to who liked it said it was “cute”. Which is a real tragedy. It should have been moving, and sad, and maybe even inspirational. But it absolutely should not have been “cute”. A shame, since it really seemed like Robin Williams ought to have been able to pull it off.

What the…? Does no one else remember Popeye???

Oh, wait. I missed Laughings post.

Seriously though, even Williams considered it a supreme stinker.

He was on a talk show in the time of Good Morning Vietnam and the host asked something along the lines of “people are saying you should get an Oscar nomination. How does that feel?”

And Williams responded: “Oh, well I can’t get an ego about it. I have too many friends who say 'Hey, remember Popeye?”

I’m going to have to vote for Patch Adams, since I managed to avoid Bicentennial Man, Jumanji, Father’s Day and Popeye.

Yeah, maybe a better question would be, “Is there any current actor/actress who has starred in more big-budget stinkers than Robin Williams?”

  • Bicentennial Man * is one of my most hated movies, ever.

Sean Connery certainly gives him a run for his money. Connery has probably been in more awful movies than any other living actor:

Highlander II (Worst movie in Hollywood history)
The Avengers
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
Family Business
The Russia House
Just Cause
Meteor
Zardoz

I bet John Wayne - who’s not current, of course - would give them both a run for their money. He was the lead in well over a hundred movies, but a lot of them were cheapie Westerns with similar plots.

I like Jumanji, but it wasn’t because of Robin Williams. He was supremely annoying in that movie. I also liked Hook and Robin Williams was pretty good in that too. I mean, I’m not saying it’s his best performance or anything, but it’s definitely entertaining.

I’d put * Patch Adams * down at the bottom.

Popeye was great in my booket. It was much closer to the original Thumble Theater shorts and I felt it captured that world completely.

Has everyone forgotten The World According to Garp? I still have a hard time trying to explain to people what that was all about.

Oh thank God someone finally brought that up. I thought I was the only person on the planet who could remember having to endure that! Talk about depressing and slightly incoherent. So many predictable plot twists…

Now that said, I loved Death to Smoochie. If you like dark, yet zanny, comedy, this one is definitely your cup of tea. It’s just great!

Oh god. That movie was so bad that even the jokes picked out for the trailer sucked. After hitting another actor in the head with a lime, Mrs. Doubtfire said “Oh, must have been a drive by fruiting.”

That was in the trailer. Were they trying to keep people away?

I liked Garp. Of course, I’m a big fan of the book. They didn’t mangle too much.

Michael Caine?
