I’m inheriting a house but it’s not in the best of shape. Is it worth spending the money to fix it up, or is it better just to sell it as is? Also, given that I don’t have great credit it would normally be hard to get a loan for the repairs, but would it be easier since I’d have collateral?
Too many factors to give a pat answer. How’s the neighborhood? If your house is substandard, it might be a good idea to bring it up to the average. If it’s a declining neighborhood, such improvement would be wasted.
Remodeling rarely brings back the amount spent for it, but it might make it more salable. I suggest you get the opinion of a real estate agent.
