The looting started right after the hurricane and most people assumed that New Orleans was fairly safe. Desperate conditions will make it worse but that isn’t the primary motivation for these people and it didn’t start it. Things will get worse and much more dangerous as people compete for necessities like water. Looking at it from a bleeding heart perspective isn’t going to help anyone. We need action which is not limited to but including a show of force.
I used to live in New Orleans. There is a subculture of impoverished black males that are very opportunistic and dangerous. If you have never be to New Orleans for any length of time, don’t shake your figure at me. New Orleans has a unique stratification of black society that doesn’t exist anywhere else. I saw two different couples get mugged by them on seperate occasions. One of my ex roomates almost got killed when they broke down her door one night. Too many examples to list really.
*I suppose I have to give the whole disclaimer. Most black people in New Orleans are not thieves, murderers, vandals, or carjackers. It is only a very small percentage that account for the serious trouble.
