So after an allnighter I finally finished a memory of light at about 8:00am this morning. First I have a question, how did they find the seals? I remember Taim sending Androl after Logain. Did he give him the seals?
Second, I really wanted mat to fight demadred. The fight scene with Lan was wonderful but I still wished general to general they had a chance to duel it out.
Finally in regards to the way he lit the tabac in the end, I was wondering if there was some sort of merging of the dream world with his own? The only character able to accomplish these kinds of things was Perrin in the wolf dream that I can remember
I assumed it was either Elayne or Aviendha who lit the pipe. They were watching him ride away. I just thought the whole pattern manipulation thing only worked outside the pattern. Plus I think Rand’s happy ending would be to just be normal.
Androl was disguised as one of Taim’s men and got dragged before Taim for not being at his proper post. While groveling for his life, Androl managed to pick Taim’s pocket and acquire the seals.
We also get a foreshadowing of the body swap between Rand and Moridin in the Crown of Swords with one of Min’s viewings: “I saw you and another man. I couldn’t make out either face, but I knew one was you. You touched, and seemed to merge into one another, and…one of you dies, and one doesn’t.” Rand thinks that this represents that Lews Therin is real and they would fight for control over his body, which is later proven false in The Gathering Storm and explained in Towers of Midnight that Lewis Therin was just Rand’s madness.
Huh? No. Rand really was the Dragon Reborn. He had actual memories of Lews Therin (which Demandred and Moridin both basically confirmed as true). How would that work if it was just the Taint driving him mad?
Oh man, I read the books through Winter’s Heart multiple times. I stopped reading the series when Crossroads of Twilight was the biggest piece of shit I’ve ever read. This thread is giving my crazy nostalgia. I think there are too many books for me to go back and too many middling to bad books in the middle, but damn and I tempted.
A pity you choked on it there, Snarky. Though I don’t blame you.
Because things picked up with the very next book. Knife of Dreams was actually worth reading, the first decent WOT book since Lord of Chaos. And then the final 3 books that Sanderson finished were pretty damn enjoyable.
I never said that Rand wasn’t the Dragon Reborn. However, I did say that Lews Therin is Rand’s madness, meaning that he believes that Lews Therin is actually in his head and they can hold a conversation (which is the effect of the taint), when if fact it’s just memories from his past life.
