NEW YORK (AP) — A new movie site is offering discounts for the online friends of viewers. Flickme offers about a third of its 1,000 movies with a “sharable discount.” One user watches a movie for $3.99 for new films or $2.99 for older ones, and that user can recommend the film to up to 10 friends on Facebook or Twitter. Those users then pay only $1.49. Films from Warner Brothers and Sony Pictures are among the site’s offerings.
As a former comic book collector and student of the art, I know that one word that was completely banned from appearing in dialogue balloons was “flick.” That’s because all such are lettered in capital letters, and at a casual glance, the “L” and “I” merge to form a “U,” giving a message that no comic book publisher would want to send to the reader. Wonder if the founders of this company were aware of that…
