Last October I lost something very dear to me (my favorite book: “Since the World Began,” by Jeff Kurtti, Hyperion, 1996). Then I read a thread where the discussion turned to the Patron Saint of Lost Things (I believe it was St. Anthony). I mentioned my lost book, and some kind Catholic doper said she would pray to St. XYZ for me. Lo & behold, I found my book the next day! thank you, Mrs. I-don’t-remember-your-name
Now I’m in a similar pickle. I’ve lost the remote control to my VCR. I’ve looked EVERYWHERE ! I can play, eject, ff, rewind, etc. manually (by pressing the buttons on the VCR), but it’s a pain. The real problem is that I can’t program my VCR or utilize the tracking function without my remote control.
Therefore, I humbly beseech any Catholic doper who is willing to do so kindly pray to Saint Whoever for me, that I might find my missing remote control. I’d do it myself, but I’m not Catholic.
Thanks in advance.
Thx rastahomie you gave me my first laugh of the day.
You could try looking down the back of all your chairs or buying a programable remote .
rasta–I’ll give it a shot, but you should really be praying to St. Tony, the patron saint of lost remote controls. He was martyred after asking his wife for the 10,000th where he’d put the darn remote. She shoved his head in the auto-rewinder. I believe his feast day is Super Bowl Sunday (it’s a moveable feast).
St. Christopher (who isn’t technically a saint anymore… don’t ask me to explain; I’m a Catholic, but not a very good one) is best known as the Patron Saint of Travelers/Motorists, but – outta curiosity – I looked it up. (Ever see a li’l St. Christopher statue on a car dashboard? Well, that’s why.) It mentions here that he’s also the Patron Saint of Bookbinders. Hmmmmm
St. Jude is the Patron Saint of Lost Causes. Maybe you could pray to him?
Oops, I goofed. Forget what I said about St. Christopher.
Find your car keys - it will be with them!
The patron saint of lost articles is Anthony of Padua:

(Note, this answer is submitted as a matter of reference, and in no way should be interpreted as an endorsement of prayers to the deceased)
Yay! My confirmation name was Jude, after the Patron Saint of Lost Causes, but I’ll surely put in a request to ol’ Tony for you.
Count me in. I’ll say a special prayer to St. Anthony for you. He (along with St. Teresa of Liseaux and St. Jude) is one of my favorites. Oh, and St. Michael.
I bet your remote will be at the door one day, dirty and hungry but no worse for his adventures. And you might want to get a collar and ID tag for him.
StG
At SoxFan59’s link, I read the following: «He is called the “Hammer of Heretics” because of his simple, and sometimes, miraculous manner of teaching the Catholic faith. The secret to his success was simply to repeat the “Holy Name of Mary” when speaking to heretics.»
Is it just me, or does he sound incredibly annoying? rastahomie, I’d be leery of invoking his help, he might end up being the houseguest that never leaves.
I’m not sure how well he’ll listen, as I am a lapsed Catholic, but I will put in a word to St. Anthony for you.
I know how annoying it is to not have the remote for the VCR. I mean, why in the heck do they make them so you can’t do anything without the remote?
