Would a United Caucasion College Fund be terribly Offensive?

This is kind of a spin-off of the White Entertainment Television, but in this example the race barrier is enforced (only white people could get this scholarship).
Also how is the United Negro Scholarship Fund funded? Is it the govt. or private funding? If it is govt isn’t that against equality standards.
I am not taking either side here, but I think it should be an interesting discussion.

You seem to need some information about the UNCF. Here’s a link that might help:

Stella Sklender Balich Memorial Scholarship

Robert Bryant Memorial Scholarship

From here.

To recap:

The United Negro College Fund gives scholarships to caucasians.

Put “private scholarships” and “caucasian” in google and you will get a few pages to browse through.

I think you also have a wrong idea of “equality standards”. There is nothing that says that the government cannot target funds explicitly for underprivileged groups, including racial ones, should certain criteria be met.

For example, there are funds available explicitly for disadvantaged groups who wish to start small businesses. A white male would not qualify, while a Hispanic woman might.

These are not intended to favor one group over the other; they are intended to bring about equality by allowing minority groups a chance (the assumption is that there is still discrimination and that it is harder for minorities and women, which I agree with).

If there were some standard that all groups must be treated equally in the government, we wouldn’t have Affirmative Action, now would we?

Not if it was directed toward better relations between Azeris, Armenians, Georgians, Ossetians, and the Abkhaz peoples.

As a Caucasian, it would offend me that the people who started the fund didn’t know how to spell. Perpetuates the stereotype that crackers are ignorant.

I started a similar thread a couple years ago…

It’s my first long thread, and pretty good too, in my opinion.

Racist Scholarships.
