The woman who’d lived across from me had internet on her tv. I had lost my internet and still owe the company some money.
She let me use her wifi so I could watch things.
All I watched was local news and youtube.
She moved to a different floor and her wifi isnt working for my tv, even though she gave me the password.
She went and ordered me a cheapish deal, and the box arrived today.
However, its from the provider I owe. I do not feel right about this, and am going to thank her, but I feel like I would be doing something illegal.
I’m not sure I follow. She’s opened a new account for you and is paying for it herself? I don’t think her giving the provider more business and money is something they’d complain about. On the other hand, I think you’re already doing something illegal by not paying what you owe on your old account, regardless of whether you use the new one.
Its in her name. When I get the money, I will pay them for my old account.
It can’t be illegal to owe money.
I don’t see anything illegal about her paying the company for you to use their service. That seems very nice of her. I guess it’s possible their contract says “can’t share outside your household”, but if they are installing the box, they know where you live.
At any rate, the fact that you owe them money is not relevant to whether what she’s doing is okay. They don’t want to give you their service until you pay up, but they aren’t, they are selling more of their service to her, a customer they are happy to interact with.
She’s cancelling it. They charged a lot more than thry said (200) so no cable for me.
Presumably your friend’s new apartment is too far away for her WiFi signal to reach your apartment. One option is to befriend another tenant on the same floor, or perhaps the one in the apartment below yours or the one in the apartment above yours, to see if they’ll let you use their WiFi.
Ok, she told me to take the boxes upstairs to her friend. I had thrown away the large box they came in, which had the bar code etc.
Now she says spectrum will deal with it, she was going to report them stolen but the fedex guy delivered to me.
