Would it do any good to hire a bloodhound (or similar) to find our cat?

We live in the city, Miracle Mile district of Los Angeles, in a large gated apartment complex and kitty went missing about 10 days ago. He turned up about two days afterwards in one of the many courtyards, but has not been seen since. Despite hours of searching and flyers in every laundry room, he’s not been located.

So I’m thinkin’, couldn’t you hire a bloodhound or similar to track him down? Or is that something reserved for the movies? One issue might be that there might not be much in the way of providing a canine the scent of kitty as he didn’t have a specific sleeping spot or cat toy. However, his litter box, not surprisingly, has still not been changed.

Bloodhounds (or dogs of any type) have a lot of trouble tracking things through a city. There are so many strong smells and so many people and things moving around that it obscures the trail pretty quickly. I don’t know if a bloodhound could follow a 10-day old trail even in much better conditions.

You could try hiring a pet detective. Some use dogs to track, others have different methods. There’s listings here, looks like this one is local to LA.

Good luck, I hope your cat comes back.

Thanks for the insight and best wishes. Failed searches aside, I still have a pretty strong belief he’s still within the complex. We’ll look into the detective.

Make sure you offer a reward on your fliers. Some people will hold the kitty till they see a reward, then they “get found”
