Would Old School, long standing Republicans actually vote for Michelle Bachman?

I hate when people say that, from any section of the political spectrum. It so often turns out to be wrong.

I dream Perry/Bachmann, and I wake up screaming…

Haven’t the “old school” Republicans long left the party by now?

I’m sure you do, but in this case, it’s absolutely true.

Come on, guy, how could you have expected anything different?

Obama had no military expereince, no business experience, and his entire Federal Career was three years in the Senate when he bothered to show up. He was the least qualified, least experienced guy to ever get sworn in.

Today, we’ve had unemployment over 9% for nearly his entire term.

We are engaged in three wars. He’s kept none of his promises.

Gasoline is at record highs.

Homes have lost half their value.

Wages have gone down, while inflation has gone up.

I understand why the right is angry with him, but the left ought to be angry with him, too.

I don’t know why I’m bothering given that your other points have already been dealt with several times over and you persist in repeating them, but here’s seven pages of very specific promises he’s kept. Feel free to handwave them away, as I’m sure you will.

Also, given your constant harping on about unemployment, you’ll be thrilled to know that although he inherited an unemployment situation in freefall and has yet to bring the situation back to where it was when he took office, we’ve added one million jobs in the last year. You should be happy about that, right?

But I’m sure McCain or Bachmann would have done better by now.

Of course it can be worse. It’s been worse. Yes, 9% unemployment is bad. But 20% is even worse, and it topped that during the Great Depression. And it’s been even worse than that, in other parts of the world. Plus, there are many other ways that things could get worse aside from the economy: If, for instance, we were to kick off a nuclear war, I reckon folks wouldn’t much care about the unemployment rate.

Not true. Unemployment has been over 9% for 62% of the months since Obama was inaugurated.

Perhaps true, but not really. Libya is not a war. Combat operations in Iraq have officially ended.

Not true, as pointed out above.

Not true. As far as I know the inflation-adjusted high is still 1981.

Not true. The Case-Schiller Index shows average home prices are around 30% off their peaks.

Not true. Inflation is extremely low - lower than it was when Obama is inaugurated. Average wages are flat.

Other than that, great post.

Oh, look, another thread that RR has managed to hijack into a “Obama SUCKS” rant.

I can set my watch by it.

And yet, Republicans keep screaming to cut taxes to create jobs. SHOW ME THE JOBS created by the existing tax cuts. You know, the Bush tax cuts.

Two of them started by his Republican predecessor and one we’re barely in.

At the same levels it was several times under the Bush Administration.

Because of the housing bubble created before he got into office. I was saying as early as 2003 that prices were unsustainable and were going to crash. Who was president then?

Pretty much true under any administration, but what party is it that keeps saying that an increase in the Minimum Wage will hurt America and destroy jobs?

Anyway, I have never considered myself an actual Republican, although there were times I was damned close to saying I was. I have voted for Republicans for President five times and Democrats only twice.

Frankly, I’m not sure I can vote for any of these people until they get past pandering to the Tea Party. As I keep asking: “When did the Republicans allow their party to be taken over by the Ignorant and the Insane?” It is pretty clear that there are ZERO moderate Republicans in this race and the only ones who used to be close to that are now busy ejecting their principles as fast as possible to satiate the Tea Party Loons.

Nobody would vote for Bachmann. They would have to be crazy. Even tea baggers should know better.

I, for one, have done so. I’m actually proud on an ongoing basis to label myself an Obama Republican (analogous to the Reagan Democrats of the 1980s).

I’d be willing to bet that at least some of the 16% of GOP primary voters would vote for her. How many of the other 84% of the GOP she’d get is yet to be determined.

My favorite 'pubby (Ike) is probably revolving in his grave like a chicken on a rotisserie because of what has become of the Republican party.

I suppose that I’m an old school Republican and no way in hell would I vote for Bachmann.

I loved Reagan, who compared to the tea party was a moderate and Bush the older was okay I guess.

Any Republican who is beholden to the Religious right won’t get my vote which severely limits my choices.

Heck I think Obama right now might be as conservative as Reagan was then.

The loony right will probably get smacked down big time in the next election, I hope anyway.

I’m old-school, and so far Bachman is leading the pack in my book. Yeah, I’d vote for her. Nobody’s perfect, and she chaps my butt on a few things. But apart from them, if she gets the nomination, she gets my vote.

I absolutely, positively could never vote for Bachmann. Never, ever, ever -

And moreover I’m probably the oldest, long-standing Republican posting here at the SDMB. I haven’t decided who I will vote for, but it certainly won’t be Bachmann. Never, ever, ever -

Yes. Too many of the Old School Dems were racists but most of them bailed when LBJ shoved Civil Rights through.

Ricky Perry didn’t abandon the Democratic Party until 1989. Is he still your Great White Hope?

Ahem.

From your link -

And Politifacts ranks the GOP claim of 2 million jobs lost as Mostly True.

Although I appreciate your legwork in proving that your claim isn’t true.

Regards,
Shodan

You’re aware that for much of his life Ronald Reagan was a Democrat, right?

Occasionally it happens that Democrats who see the light make the greatest Republicans of all.
