Been there, done that more times than I can count!
Like they say, you know why fiddle tunes have names? So you can tell them apart!
Been there as well. In my ensemble I play the cello parts on upright. Unfortunately, the rest of our ensemble LOVES their parts to that piece. Hard to believe it only repeats some 54 times or so. Always cracks me up when someone says, “Is it okay to start at measure #__).” Look - it is either the odd measure, or the even one!
I just take it as an opportunity to practice as perfect long bows as I can…
I didn’t watch the halftime show, but I just pulled up the YouTube video of it, and I was expecting something really incomprehensible given the descriptions. I may have missed a word here and there, but I understood like 90% of what he was saying.
ETA: Not sure why this is showing as a reply to Frosted_Glass
Yeah, I’m a generation younger than youse guys, so I’m sure that helps. Stuff that I can’t make at all is like, death/doom/black metal some of my peers are into. A lot of that stuff goes way over my head, though they seem to enjoy it well enough.
I didn’t see it live either, but it apperantly was remixed and cleaned up for the youtube upload. People are saying the sound mix drowned the vocals pretty badly live.
I’m not familiar with his work, but I do listen to rap, and I couldn’t understand a word he was saying watching it live. It sounded more like a sound system issue, rather than him not enuncosting.
As a 50-ish white guy who loved rap back in the Run DMC and NWA era, but could never get into liking the more modern lo-fi trap eras, the biggest ignorant revelation for me was the ‘crip walk’ dance that Serena Williams did. Without a lot of rabbit hole journey into what crip walking was, I wouldn’t have noted it as being any different than Courtney Cox dancing with Bruce Springsteen. Who knew Serena doing a whimsical little foot flippy dance had such heavy subtext?
Yeah, but that subtext changed dramatically around 1992 when, Americas sweetheart and Martha Stewart’s best friend, Snoop Dog started Cwalking all over the place, sort of all the time.
Agreed! In real life I’ve seen far more white frat guys with no gang affiliations c-walking than people with actual affiliations. MTV beamed the c-walk into homes around the country and it hit the mainstream in the mid-90s.
I’ll never forget how surreal it was seeing a bunch of white kids c-walking at a frat party when I was still in high school.
You’re right. It’s a wheelhouse devoid of melody or music. A completely different form of entertainment. It’s sad that it’s often filled with misogyny and the “N” word. For reasons unknown the rapping industry seems to spawn violence from within it’s ranks. I don’t see the value it adds to a national passtime.
There is a complete disconnect between watching a sporting event and a once-a-year block of 13 mins for entertainment.
As for people who wouldn’t give up watching the Super Bowl they can and will turn off the half time show and the ads that follow it.
I turned if off when I saw someone standing on a Grand National. I can only imagine what was done to the car.
I would guess it wouldn’t be allowed for the half time show. I’ll ask again, where is the performer on the list of rapper’s who don’t use the “N” word.
I’m not sure what your point is. If you were concerned about the N-word in the halftime show, then your worry is misplaced – it didn’t appear. If this is just a rant against rap, then I have no interest in doing research for you.
