So posting something that is a “bad idea” is “unacceptable” and will be closed down, but it isn’t against the rules.

There’s no specific rule against it, and if you opened a thread like this without asking you wouldn’t get a warning for it. But no, it wouldn’t be allowed.

KAYFABE, girl. How am I supposed to make a buck if you’re putting over your opponent like that? See, the way the deal works is we make people think you can/will win, so that everybody bets on you. Then, in the actual race, you “accidentally trip” allowing Marley to win the race. We then divide the profits…say 70% for me as the promoter, 10% each for you and Marley, and 10% for…um…expenses that I’ll handle.

Yeah, they have “post your anonymous confessions” threads over on Something Awful fairly routinely, where someone sets up a temporary web mail account and reposts people’s submissions with identifying info removed. They’re usually pretty interesting, in that people can solicit and give advice on sensitive topics, although there is also a fairly high percentage of obviously fake “confessions”.

I can’t say I really understand the point of what the OP is proposing, though. Why would anyone want to PM their secrets to some stranger on a message board if there’s not going to be any feedback or follow up?

And if Angry Lurker just wants people to PM him confessions (and not post anything after the initial plea) how exactly is locking the thread going to accomplish anything?

This kind of modding seems like bizarre paternalism to me.

I like this idea even more than my original idea.

I would envisage it something like this:

Poster X sends me PM with what they want to discuss.

I reply back with what I intend to post as anonymised as I can so Poster X is not identifiable and ask for that poster’s assent to post it.

If said assent is given then I post it.

And subsequent replies from poster X can be handled in the same way.

Yeah, there was nothing in the OP about AL posting anything – which we also wouldn’t allow, but would be able to point to a rule for: no socks.
