Oh yeah - older transwomen who have grey or white hair that does not respond to laser (as well as blondes with light hair) undergo untold agony under the electrolysis needles. And it seems to take forever. Younger ones with darker hair can go through laser, which while painful is MUCH less painful and MUCH faster.
Yeah, nope, and in some ways the possibility of developing diabetes is more terrifying to me than the possibility of Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s. Obviously I’d do the injections if the alternative were amputations and death, but that’s the stuff of nightmares.
I assure you, the insulin injections don’t make my life a nightmare; they’re just a minor PITA. And you’d really rather have Alzheimer’s than diabetes???
Be clear–I didn’t say I’d rather have it, I said it’s less terrifying. If you gave me the choice, I’d run away screaming, but in the end choose against Alzheimer’s.
That said, we’re getting pretty far afield here. I initially mentioned the phobia to contrast my own approach to gender with that of other folks. If the switch involves injections, that’s the most important aspect of the hypothetical to me, not the changed genitalia.
