Seeing my 1 year old break into tears after bumping her head is upsetting enough to me. Can’t fathom gambling with giving my baby a life of constant pain and discomfort if the chances were higher than 30%.
not sure of the percentages of inheritance, but I have both Psoriasis and children. Looking ok so far, but I didn’t start with it until adulthood.
I had my daughter before I was diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease (almost always genetic) and her father discovered there is some fatal liver disease in his family.
If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn’t have had her, to be truthful.
She’s 23 now, tests have shown no disease, so far. For PKD, if it’s going to appear, it’s almost always before age 30, but so far she is showing absolutely no signs. Because we’re not in contact with her father, I have no idea the name of the liver disease, I just know it took out his father and half-brother.
I don’t want her to go through the misery I go through.
She has already decided she doesn’t want kids, which is just fine by me. Her boyfriend has tons of nieces and nephews who can be spoiled.
I’m a genetic alcoholic, and I would have biological children. I don’t, but I would. Anything much more serious would probably stop me.
