I figure if there is a hell I’m going there anyway.
I may as well make a little money before I get there.
$75 isn’t enough, so I might try for more.
Maybe, maybe not…
This is a great excuse to plug one of my favourite Canadian (and Don McKellar) movies, Highway 61
The antagonist believes he is the devil and buys up souls for $20 a pop
First I’d make sure that he’s a man of wealth and taste.
But what’s puzzling me is the nature of his game.
I wouldn’t do it because I learned long ago that there are no free rides. Taking money from someone, especially someone who believes he is the devil, just cannot be good for you. Poor guy!
I would probably think he was just trying to sell me something and keep ignoring him and walk away.
$75 to give away something that doesn’t exist and is unverifiable? Sign me up!
The thing that gets me about this is the implications. If the guy is just a kook, no harm done. (Unless he harms you). But if the guy really is a devil, and he really does want to buy your soul, doesn’t that suggest that at least some of the other stuff in the mythology is true? If there’s a devil & souls, then there probably is a god, heaven, hell, etc? So isn’t the very fact that there is a devil and he wants your soul is basically proof that selling your soul to a devil is one of the stupidest things you could do?
Would you be interested in selling your sense of humor then?
Nope, not for any amount of money. Not because I believe in the devil or heaven or hell or anything like that but because I simply don’t know what lies beyond this life, if anything. Why in the world would I take even the slightest chance of being wrong about eternal life and all that jazz for a cash payment today? I wouldn’t be willing to take cash in exchange for being slapped around by Vishnu for eternity either because I can’t say for certain that it isn’t a possibility. If hell exists I might end up there anyway but I’d like to know that it wasn’t because I was stupid enough to exchange eternity for the equivalent of 4 large supreme pizzas.
