Most countries have managed to get rid of the guns and oddly they don’t suffer from bizarre mass shootings.

Many countries which do not have a gun culture actually do have guns: for hunting, sport, cops, military. Switzerland has a gun pretty much in every household, yet they don’t have metal detectors at the entrance of schools and the only people I saw carrying an actual gun in over a year there were border guards.

Neither do the vast majority of US schools:

The majority of schools in the United States do NOT use metal detectors on a day-to-day basis. While there are no credible statistics on the exact number of schools using metal detectors, stationary metal detectors used on a daily basis are typically limited to large urban school districts with a chronic history of weapons-related offenses. U.S. schools regularly using stationary metal detectors on a day-to-day basis are the exception, not the rule.

Because statistics indicate that fewer than 300 gun related incidents per year in the US are legitimate self-defense efforts vs. the enormous number of gun-related homicides, accidental shootings, and suicides.

I’d like to see a cite for this claim. Specifically, that there are fewer than 300 uses of guns in self defense per year in the US. I’m guessing there are several hundred such incidents in this thread alone.

Neither do the vast majority of US schools:

I’m sure there are some. Probably inner city schools. None of the ones I have ever been in have metal detectors and I’m a detective who handles juvenile cases.

Nation wide attention? Probably dependent on the news of the day.

Big city shootings? How many people involved? 1-2? Doesnt make the news.
