Pretty much the mortal sin of ballpark behavior. When it comes to right-of-way with balls out of play, children always win.
Girl Scout night at the Braves game years ago. Mom & daughter are downstairs getting ready to walk around the field with hundreds of girls. Me & Junior watching batting practice. I send him down to the wall to see if he can catch a ball. They’re flying everywhere and players are tossing the kids balls now and then. Another dad and son are sitting nearby, and I tell the kid he should go down and try to get a ball.
He goes down and stands near my son. He’s a foot taller than my kid. Finally, a player turns to my son, points to him, and throws him a ball. Big Kid runs over, pushes my boy out of the way, and snatches the ball. Comes back to dad all happy & shit. :mad:
Took every ounce of energy I had not to punch that kid, but the worst part is I’m the one who sent him down there. :smack:
That’s OK. Couple of calls from my boss, and the kid has more balls, shirts, and signatures than the Braves HR department!

Be cool if someone were to track her down and present her with a handsome display case for her trophy, including a digital picture frame pre-programmed with an “vine” of that video.
Right at the end of that video it looks like another woman is giving a ball to the girl’s father. Hopefully it’s the same ball and she retrieved it by slapping the first woman across the ballpark.

Boy, those were some real looks of disbelief and disgust from many seated around her. I’d imagine she was heckled worse than any visiting player.
Unfortunately, it was just a ballpark employee giving them a ball. I agree it would have been better if she had slapped the shit outta the Evil Woman and taken the ball from her.

Looking at it in slow replay, it came from a player intentionally tossing the ball to the two kids waiting there atop the dugout.
Thankfully, there is balance in the world…
Yeah I can understand getting caught up in the moment when a ball is hit and not seeing a kid. In fact it’s not a good idea to take your eye off the ball to see who else is around. But it is now standard practice to have the players throw balls into the stands directly for kids. It was obvious who the ball was meant for.
I did some googling and found out that this occurred in 2011. Apparently the fans in that section booed her for several minutes so she knew she wasn’t very popular. The team was pretty incensed about it too and gave the little girl a new ball that was autographed. Pretty shitty situation but worked out better for the little girl. I wonder if the lady tried to swipe that one too! In any case I didn’t find any mention of who the lady was and found no information on whatever fallout she received because of it.
A slightly longer version states that the tv crew got the little girl a ball but I didn’t find the full story.
Some kids just don’t understand how it works.
