Wow, that's a great cover of that song

I’ve always loved the Warren Zevon penned song, ‘Carmalita’. The song was originally recorded by Murray McLauchlan, but it was later recorded by Zevon himself (and by others including Linda Ronstadt and G G Alin) but yesterday I heard the Dwight Yoakam version:

Which he apparently collaborated with Flaco Jimenez on. Anyway, I love it.

Found this cool cover of Pepper by the Butthole Surfers:

S.G. Goodman - Pepper

It’s like a rock-a-billy style, totally digging it!

For a long time, my favorite covers of beloved songs are the Black Crowes version of Sweet Nuthin’ by the Velvet Underground:
O Sweet Nuthin

And Concrete Blonde’s cover (with vocals by Steve Wynn) of the Ship Song by Nick Cave:
The Ship Song

Doctor and the Medics covering Spirit in the Sky

Empty Pockets cover Al Stewart’s “In Brooklyn.”

Big Country doing a job on Neil Young’s “Hey Hey My My (Into the Black)”:

Nice version of Dire Straits’ Tunnel of Love by Missioned Souls from the Philippines

English Beat doing Tears of a Clown is simple happy fun.

I’m a huge Queensryche fan, but I didn’t know until recently that their song “Gonna Get Close to You” is, in fact a cover of the same song by Dalbello.

I think the Queensryche version is better.

Not obscure, but of late I have been grooving to Luther Vandross’ cover of “A House Is Not A Home”. It’s sublime.

Tom Jones and Wilson Pickett - Hey Jude

A little Rocky Horror to start your Thursday. Science Fiction/Double Feature

deleted repeat post…

I was binging some Dany Day (the best day!) YouTube clips and thinking they are all great covers when I saw this in the comments, and knew I wanted to pot the clip.

Last Saturday I had a nervous breakdown that led to a very strong depressive episode. I was about to take 40 barbiturates and commit suicide, but suddenly this song was played; I had my face deformed by tears and tension. When the choir part arrived and I saw Dany’s face so energetic and so full of life, I threw out the jar and sat down to listen her, I started crying as I did. I cried for the lovely message in the song (which I had forgotten over the years) and for the interpretation of her… this song was my favourite Foo Fighter song when I was younger, I had forgotten it and now that I heard it in her voice, I can only say thank you for stopping me from do it that night. Depression won’t go soon, but at least, I can say I’m still here.
