wring, tell me more about what you do! Yes, you: wring! wring!

Hi wring,

I know from many of your posts that you counsel ex-offenders, help them get jobs, stay clean and straight, etc.

I think what you do is amazing. I’m sort of looking around for what I want to do with my life - helping people is a must- and I’d love to hear more about what you do.

How did you get into the field? Was it through a social work background?
What educational background do you have/recommend?
Can you live on what it pays?
Do you have a hard time keeping yourself objective when dealing with people’s personal struggles?
Do you like your job?
Do you feel like you actually help people?

A lot of my background is in training & recruiting, and I have a huge coaching/encouraging streak in my personality (I don’t know if you read the Myers-Briggs thread, but I’m a big ol’ ENFP - “advocate/champion.”). I taught some reading, writing, and ESL to impoverished adults going for their GEDs for a while - it was volunteer work but basically the best job I ever had.

Anyway, I’d love to hear more about it. Your email address isn’t in your profile, but mine is and you can feel free to send me mail.

Thank you!
