An amazing story. Not sure I’d be nearly so magnanimous as he, after 18 years lost in prison… but $5m would probably make me feel a little better.
On a related note.
So this asshole, and his pride, led to the conviction of 13 likely innocent people. And as the linked story recounts, one poor guy has spent 9 years in jail. What isn’t mentioned is the stigma and guilt faced by all these folks - “hey, look, there’s the child beater!”. How much compensation is that worth?

“I think we all wonder, could we be so kind and gentle and humble as we find this person,” said Rep. Kenneth Green, D-Hartford. “He did not deserve to be incarcerated for 18 years. Five million dollars is the least that we can do.”

I’m sure he is comforted by the least they can do.
I know it is just a phrase. Really, I do.
I hope the money does make him comfy and allow him to have a decent “rest of his life.” I can’t imagine how to make up to someone taking such a huge portion of their life away.
