A top Army official from the Pentagon is reportedly calling for the public resignation of the CIA chief.
The Queen of England has temporarily replaced the Changing of the Guard with a military band playing the US National Anthem and other patriotic US songs.
That’s what the President said today. He said, with tears in his eyes, that war has been declared against us.
This is the time to forget what letters follow our leaders names and pray that they do what is right. These attacks were viewed as retalliations against us for things we don’t understand. Our retalliation will be viewed as terrorist attacks agains them.
There are still cell phone calls coming from beneath the rubble.
I just heard a report on NBC that three men of Middle-Eastern appearance were aboard a plane at the gage scheduled to take off from JFK Airport at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday. For some reason, they were asked to leave the plane, but refused. Police were called, but they left the plane and disappeared from the terminal before they could be stopped.
Three men of Middle-Eastern appearance, possibly the same ones that fled the plane, were later observed in a JFK lounge. Everyone else in the area was watching TV coverage from the WTC; these three were just talking calmly amongst themselves. When they noticed police apporaching, they rushed out of the terminal and drove away.
You know, I’ve felt a lot of things over the last three days. I was one of the Dopers who was here all day, sharing what we knew as events unfolded on the 11th. I felt shock and anger, hopeless, greif, concern for the people of our nation, all this and more that I can’t describe. But, strangely, I never cried, not even at home in my own bed. My eyes teared up a few times, but the dam never burst.
Then, I read about the changing of the guard at Buckingham palace, that they were going to play our national athem. And that image hit me harder than anything before. The image of red-coated british troops, in a uniform that recalls our bloody birth as a nation, was burned in my mind. In that place, the home of the Queen, our nation was honored today.
The terrorists have caused intense grief and unspeakable sadness. They also, however, have inspired an unimaginable rage such as hasn’t been seen in nearly 60 years.
I live in Minnesota, but they attacked my New York and my Arlington.
I can’t remember which Senator said it, but he said he wanted a “disproportionate” response. So do I.
I went out to try and buy a flag this morning. I was a bit saddened, but even more proud, to find out that all the stores I checked had already been sold out of them.
I’ll stop rambling now. Helluva way to make my comeback to this board.
Two emails arrived today right next to each other. I believe that they
both
reflect the thoughts and beliefs of all Americans so I am forwarding them
on
to our entire State Chamber organization. Please forward to as many as you
can. Thanks.
FIRST: Tomorrow is U.S. Pride Day. Everyone should wear U.S. colors. Try
to
be wearing as much red white and blue as you can. Send this message to as
many other people as you know. Let’s get the whole country into it. At
least
send it to 10 other people. They are asking people to drive with their
headlights ON in a show of solidarity and in remembrance of those who lost
their lives. Please pass the word along.
SECOND: To show the rest of the world that we Americans stick together,
FRIDAY
SEPTEMBER 14 is “Flags Across America.” All Americans are asked to display
the American flag either in their homes or cars. Let’s keep the meaning of
UNITED in “United States”. Pass this on to as many people as you know.
I just saw on ABC news that they have found 10 firemen alive somewhere in the rubble. Let’s hope this time that the reports are correct. I can’t find an on-line corrboration of this yet.
Now it’s police officers, I may have heard it incorrectly. Apparently one of the 10 officers called his wife on his cell phone to tell them where to look. They are two stories down. They have not yet physically located them.
A total of 10 suspected terrorists, reportedly Arab nationals, were arrested in JFK and LaGuardia yesterday. They were carrying items (e.g.: bags) that only members of a flight crew would have. False pilot’s licenses and at least one commercial pilot’s certification were confiscated.
