WTC disaster album cover - How can this be a coincidence?

Snopes, which is almost always a good site, really downplays the coincidence factor here too much IMO. I know what the factual part of my brain is telling me. But seriously folks - doesn’t it make you sit up and go “Holy shit?”

I guess I’m putting this here because, IMHO, this just seems like one of those times when the word coincidence fails me. Anyone else?

I think any group involved in the attack would have to be very, very stupid to have also prepared artwork of it in advance. The WTC was a fairly huge symbol of money and power, so if you wanted some kind of mock-rebel artwork about making a statement it certainly would’ve be a candidate.

I know Matt, I know. I’m just saying that IMO it really stretches the outer limits of “coincidence” to me. (shudder)

It’s a wild coincidence, but that’s what it is. After all, even the terrorists didn’t know what their handiwork would look like in the hour following the attack.

It’s not that much of a conincidence, when you think about it this way. The band is called “Coup” and is portraying itself as a coup taking over America. To do so they are striking at a symbol of America’s financial power, so they blow up the WTC. Since the terrorists picked this target for the same reasons, it’s not that coincidental. Also, the bombing of the WTC in 94 helped establish it in many peoples’ minds as such a symbol (not to mention that it was really tall.)

So they were thinking along the same lines as the terrorists, but for different reasons. It’s still pretty coincidental that the explosion on the album cover is about at the same height as the real explosions, but for all I know, they may have tried different ways to portray it and found this to look the best.

Just my take on it.

I agree with Legomancer. As a target the WTC was a huge icon of Americana as can be seen by all the things that have had to be changed in the entertainment industry before they’ll play it.
