WTF? DVR set to record "Chuck" at 1:36AM on Tuesday?

I was just looking ahead at my scheduled recordings, and my DVR (ATT U-Verse) says it is going to record a new episode of “Chuck” at 1:36AM Tuesday 10/19.

Anyone else have something wierd like this going on?

The week before last Castle’s new episode (the treasure map one) reaired around 2 a.m. Tuesday or Wednesday. Maybe the networks are trying to capture more of an audience than they usually do with paid programming?

A few years ago a new episode of 24 was broadcast around 2:00 AM by my local Fox affiliate. I later heard that they did it so they could have aired enough episodes before the new year to qualify for Emmy consideration.

There’s nothing on the NBC website that indicates that Chuck will be shown at other than the usual time. My own DVR shows nothing unusual: Chuck will be shown on Monday at 8 PM and will be recorded then.

Which reminds me, I should go start the Chuck thread.

When I look at my scheduled recordings or my already-recorded shows, there are almost always things scheduled/recorded at weird times that I had no intention of recording.

My assumption is that something local will pre-empt Chuck at it’s usual time.

(Although, around here, it usually seems like 2:47 is the preferred time to air stuff pre-empted by local sports stuff.)

Some of my local stations have been airing “election specials” (debates, etc.) in prime time lately. When that happens, they air “prime time” shows after the regularly scheduled late show(s).

On a related note, FX has a Sunday night/Monday morning reair of Terriers coded as “New” for most of the season, and so my DVR has been robotically recording that unless I notice it and cancel it.

Like Eurka said, check your DVR guide schedule to see what’s being aired on NBC at 8pm; I’ll bet the local NBC affiliate has pre-empted the prime time shows for something local (I’m giving 20-1 odds it’s sports-related. Last March during the basketball playoffs almost all my prime-time shows on NBC were bumped to odd times like 2:37 am. I’d also suggest that (assuming your DVR has this feature) that you set the early-morning recording to bump the end time to record an extra 15-30 minutes; I lost the endings of a bunch of my shows last March because they started later than the DVR schedule said they would.

I had the late, lamented “Better Off Ted” set on my DVR last winter, and never bothered to delete it when ABC canceled the show in … February? March? Anyway, imagine my surprise and delight when a scheduled recording of “Better Off Ted” appeared this summer. Yay! Burning off the last episodes!

I was not so delighted when “Wipeout” appeared in that time slot instead. These things just seem to happen with DVRs sometimes. Nobody knows … it’s a mystery.

I was delighted when I saw Netflix had the last two unaired episodes of “Better Off Ted,” though. What a good show … sigh.

Well LurkMeister, you have lost your bet. I just checked the guide, and it’s a gubernatorial debate. Which I am vaguely interested in anyhow, so I might just watch it.

Sons of Anarchy does that and it’s a special “recap” episode. It usually only lasts for 3 minutes.

Similarly, sometimes pay channels like HBO will air a movie in the middle of the night months before they officially premier. Usually it is listed as To Be Announced. I always assumed it was for tax reasons since the few times I caught it it was near the end of the year.

Your location says you’re in MI, so I assume you get WDIV. They’re preempting Chuck for some gubernatorial nonsense hosted by Devon Scillian. LAME. Air that shit at 7pm or something, not like you need to see Wheel then Jeopardy every single night.
