Okay, I have Word 2004 for Mac version 11.5.5 and Mac OSX 10.6.8, and a VERY sudden onset issue’s just come up.
In short: I cannot save anything. Every time I try to save something (it works fine until then), the following things become inoperable: closing a document (the red button in the upper left is greyed out), saving a document (all applicable menu items are greyed out and keyboard shortcuts are non-functional), quitting Word (greyed out, must force-quit), 90%+ of menu functions in general, such as changing font.
The most recent thing I did was the latest updates (security and remote desktop). Anyone have any idea what’s going on? This has never happened before!
Have you tried repairing permissions by running the Disk Utility and then restarting? That has fixed for me many an odd and baffling behavior that was specific to one application.
I was just going to mention that. Older Mac programs that use Rosetta to run PowerPC code on Snow Leopard on an Intel machine were having …issues. And Word 2004 would certainly be among those programs, given that Intel Macs did not appear until 2006ish…
This also means that your Word will not run in Lion, since Apple removed Rosetta from Lion.
