Ok - maybe I missed something, but now the Reader doesn’t even run *The Straight Dope? * And no Savage Love? I didn’t see any warnings, but I can’t believe that those two anchors of the Reader are no longer in the paper edition! It was bad enough when they trunkated Cecil’s answers and continued them on line, but now - nothing???!!! What about the people who don’t live on line or in front of screens? Do they get nothing? I’m massively bummed and particularly bummed by the SDMB for not making me more aware of the fact that the central character of the website was disappearing from regular view. What’s next - we simply imagine the Reader as if it were on line? A wonderful paper becoming almost invisible. Crap!
I just saw them in there last week. Are you sure? Are they still on the online edition?
Yep - I saw them last week, too. I haven’t bothered to look on line, as I still read The Reader as if it’s a newspaper, so I don’t ever read it on my computer. In fact, in our family, it has always been a regularity that someone would bring home a Reader from one of our local drop spots on Thursday or Friday. (This could change, now.) The two columns are not listed in the table of contents. I read up to the spot where the music section starts, thinking that maybe the location of those two columns had been shifted back, but noooooo. Nothing. Nada.
They still have links on the front page of the Reader’s website. Maybe cross-post this question to MPSIMS or Cafe Society where it will get more attention, or ask a mod to move it? I think there’d be broader interest in the topic than it might find here.
Uh, Mods…

While the OP isn’t truly an ATMB question, it will receive an answer quicker here (probably).
Moved from SD Chicago to ATMB.
I do note this is a holiday weekend; I wouldn’t be looking for anything earlier than Tuesday. Just saying.
feels like the game is afoot.
Dunno. We’ll see what we can find out. Nice to see somebody’s still picking up and reading the dead tree version.
Eeww - “the dead tree version.” Isn’t there a more flattering description? “The traditional, Guttenberg-based version”? “The actual, real-life version”? etc.
Ed tells me he saw a [del]dead tree[/del] traditional printed version of a copy of the Reader and both columns were there in printed form. Is it possible you got a copy of the paper missing that section/those pages?
You do know that your computer is real, right?
I have in my hands the 5/23/13 edition which lists three columns: Joravsky (p.11), Isaacs (p.12), and Miner (p.14). No Savage. No Adams. And the paper does not contain the columns of these writers. Don’t know what happened, but the guys are not listed and the paper does not have them. 56 pages of copy before the upside-down music section appears. No pages missing.
I blame the Illuminati. Or thermite.
Definitely not the illuminati. Thermite, maybe.
My God!!! Do you mean Ed is one of the ‘Lizard People’???
I’m not sure what to tell you. Either I had an unusually vivid hallucination, or I had a copy of the printed paper for 5/23 in my hands yesterday that had TSD and Savage Love in their usual locations. Unfortunately, I left the paper on the train and cannot confirm this now.
Initiate Escape Plan Alpha!
Someone is counterfeiting* The Reader*!
Why someone would counterfeit a free newspaper is left as an exercise for the student.
OOOH!!! Pick me, teacher! I have a great conspiracy theory to explain that!
