No, I did not quit because the customers were jerks. I quit because I hated the job in general. And if anything, I quit because my bosses were the jerks, not the customers. (Deliberately short-staffing on our busiest days, and when the customers complained, what could I say, since in this instance, I actually agreed with them?)
Of course. However, I never have, and second, if I DID, I’d be out on my ass. Here, it seems, it’s encouraged. (Or how else has Tuba kept her job all these years?)
But you keep telling yourself what you like, alice, since you will anyways. mutantmoose, who the hell are you, and how the hell do you know so much about this place? You’ve been here what, two months? Hmmm…
I changed my mind about the ban. I support it now. I love change.
The SSM thing was years ago and just referenced how I tried to play nice. The measure was guaranteed to pass, but I thought I’d offer an olive branch all the same. Not germaine, I suppose, but there it is.
I was reading the board for a while before I opened an account plus I learn fast. Plus it doesn’t take much prior knowledge to recognise a dumb question when I see one (as with Ottos).
This is not Ed’s site. Scroll to the bottom - see owned by Creative Loafing, which is NOT a wholly Ed Zotti owned business. If I ever treated customer’s of my company in this fashion I would be out on my ass. Frankly, the mods let too much shit get through. There are people here who are obviously just trying to stir shit up, but they are given plenty of rope to hang themselves with. From all accounts Otto had been getting rope for some time, but because Ed is having some sort of mood swing today Otto got the boot for a comment that was not particularly obnoxious.
This wouldn’t have been your board. Specifically, a board that was under moderation that involved instituting random rules and banning people for asking snarky questions about said rules would not have become the Dope we know/knew and love/loved.
It is indeed true that the guy with the biggest stick generally wins. However, it’s also true that he tends to win because people, given the choice, tend not to hang around people with big sticks and a hankering to use them, and the big-stick people need to play with themselves. (And their big sticks).
Meh. Otto was acting like a prick. Was his one comment, in isolation bad enough to be banned? Probably not. However, given his history he had to know he was pushing his luck.
I understand being pissed at Otto. I think most of the people in this thread have crossed swords with Otto. I’ve had people say things to me that were at least that bad and I’ve said things to other Dopers that I arguably should have been banned for, but Otto wasn’t banned for what he said to you or to anybody else in this thread but an arbitrary headchopping for something that never has in the past been a headchopping offense.
It’s like the guy on that Holocaust Message Board said:
