Even better yet: Burn your garbage, then blame everyone else when it catches your house on fire. Anyone that accuses you of being an idiot is simple a heartless bastard that should lose all public services for not paying some random tax and some point in his life.
Not only did he offer to pay the 75, but he offered a lot more. His concerned neighbor also offered a lot more. Many people would have kicked in 75 to keep his house from burning down and his animals dying. Some cold hearted pricks just can not figure it out. It was never about the money. It was about assholes teaching people a lesson.
Why didn’t they offer to pay last week? You know, before Cranick started the fire?
Why is it only after a fire starts that people give a shit? Take some fucking responsibility. The lesson was taught last time. Did you know he’s done this before?
Few people realize but a few years ago Cranick’s house caught on fire (I think because he kid started a fire). Cranick hadn’t paid the subscription fee, but he promised he would. He promised that he had learned his lesson. Well, he didn’t pay then, he did pay in the mean time. And it’s unlikely he would have paid in the future.
Do you think he’s paid for this year’s subscription yet? Have you offered to pay it for him?
Holy shit, I just realized Cranick pulled this stunt before!
This isn’t the first time he called without paying the subscription fee, begging for help, offering to pay what ever it cost.
And the worst part, the fire department didn’t bother to teach him a lesson. They let him continue in his blissful life of ignorance. Had they taught him a lesson back then, this wouldn’t have happened.
For those of you that are stating that it was about the money are missing this fact: You are assuming that one of the firefighters could come out with a receipt book and would be prepared to handle this as a cash transaction. (Credit card readers not being usually found on fire trucks) The firefighters would then have had to create an account to bill Cranick the $500 for the call, before putting out the fire.
These are firefighters, not tax assessors. So, in reality what would have happened is the firefighters would have again accepted a promise to pay, based upon Cranick’s history, a broken promise, and then set the standard that the city will provide free fire fighting to those who choose not to pay for it. Really, that is extremely unfair to the residents of the city who pay for the fire service whether they want it or not.
If you really want to find fault, fault the fire system for not bringing an assessor on the fire truck when they respond to calls near a non-paying customer, fault the county for thinking that it would be a good idea to not have a fire department of its own, or fault the people who think that a promise to pay for a service is the same as paying for it.
First that there was no loss of life (human or otherwise),…and then that his pets died inside his house when it burned, but I started hearing this mostly after the Olberman interview.
So, what’s the Straight Dope? His house was on fire, he was making phone calls to 911, but he couldn’t open a door and let Spot and Fluffly out? Do Spot and Fluffy even exist?
This whole fucking thread and nobody has brought up the fact that there are communities that will be debating on whether to offer up this same system to their neighbors who currently have no fire protection.
The more controversy this gets the more unlikely these types of offers will be extended in the future and less people that get fire service of any kind.
Why should a community want to offer this service to anyone when it will automatically mean that they owe protection to everyone at a loss to their own taxpayers? Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.
No wonder that dip shit lawyer doesn’t want to do the pro bono work in the other thread. Why should someone be nice and volunteer for anything when it means they have to put up with this bull shit?
Fuck that, the FD should have been there BEFORE the fire started. Didn’t they learn anything the last time Cranick burned garbage? This whole thing is about teaching the FD a lesson.
Did he offer his first born as well?[/QU
It would not matter. Cold hearted cocksuckers who enjoy other peoples misery will cut him no slack. It was never about the 75 bucks. Never. But some people boner up when someone suffers. They think it could never happen to somebody as smart and together as they are. If you don’t pay your fire insurance this year , you should suffer like a dog. The dogs died. not the firemens fault, they were there in time but did not keep the dogs and cat alive. But they just did not get the 75 bucks. i am sure the dogs paid dearly. The cat died too, but damn they deserved it.
Did you know this happened before? And that time they offered Cranick plenty of slack.
I guess you missed that. But now that you know, perhaps you won’t say something so stupid.
Just so we’re clear, this happened before. And now you know, and knowing is half the battle.
It wasn’t just this year, it happened before. Cranick didn’t want to pay for the fire service, that was his choice to make, as a result he didn’t get service.
If Cranick left his dogs to die in a hot car with the windows up, who’s fault would that be?
If Cranick got drunk and drove over his dogs, who’s fault would that be?
If Cranick couldn’t be bothered to get his dogs $75 worth of heart worm treatment, who’s fault would that be?
In this case, Cranick left his animals trapped in a house that didn’t have coverage by a fire department. Then he started a fire.
Did you know he started the fire?
ETA This has been asked before: Why didn’t anyone else bother to save the animals?
You are one cold hearted ignorant asshole. The fire dept. was there and could have stopped the dogs from dying. They could have kept the cat alive. They were there. it is pretty simple . But they sat back and listened to puppies die in fire agony. Makes you all warm and fuzzy to picture , doesn’t it? Dam if the owners just paid the 75 it would not have happened. Maybe. you probably believe it would be impossible for the firemen or the bureaucracy to make a mistake. I want to live in your simple uncomplicated world. One that innocent animals dying are just an error, no ethics and morality involved. Fuck them. let them die in a fire. The owner may or may not have paid the fee. Maybe he did. It does not matter.
