X-box Price Drop!

Well if you were thinking about getting a game system, here is some info you might be interested in.

Would this make you buy an X-box? Or if you already have one, would you get another? If you’re wondering why someone might do that, one word - Halo(ok, there are other games that can benefit from linked systems).

Is this MPSIMS, yes. Am I also asked for peoples opinion, yes. But of the two boards, I think I just wanted to share.

Nah, wait for Sony to respond. Slightly better selection of games…

I still can’t make up my mind.

Eck. Sorry for this but it has to be done…

X-box?! That thing sucks! I am serious! Sure a few of the games look pretty but the only decent game on the entire system is Halo. past that, the system is one very big expencive paperweight…and one that covers your entire desk too. Dont get me started on the controller too. If I wanted to play using a canned ham I would go to Kroger’s…"

So to answer your question: No. I would not buy an X-Box if I was held at gunpoint. Buy a Gamecube or a Playstation 2. Course the only reason I say PS2 is for Squaresoft, but they are making games for Nintendo now, so just get a GameCube for games and a PS2 for the DVD’s. I’ll say two words to support my Gamecube suportion. RESIDENT EVIL!

Sony started it. They dropped the price of the PS2 to $199.99 and then Microsoft followed suit a day later.

As I have mentioned in another thread that brought up the topic of the X-box’s controller size, my three daughters (ages 7, 9, and 13) all have no difficulty with using the X-box controller. Even Halo, which uses most of the controller (two joysticks, two triggers, six buttons).

Speaking of Halo, yes it is THE stand out game, but it is not the only great game on the system. If you’d like some recomendations let me know.

I continue to find it amusing that the best game for Microsoft’s XBox console comes from a Macintosh game developer.

The Xbox controller… a lot of people don’t like it because it’s designed to rest in your palms, while console controllers have traditionally rested on the fingertips.

Anyway, the Xbox games just keep getting better and better. Morrowind is going to be on the Xbox… it’s on PC, too, but it appears that the system requirements are so insane that the Xbox version is the way to go (although I’m sure I’m inevitably going to get both). Project Ego is going to REALLY rock (Squaresoft? What’s that? :D).

Give it a rest, Rjung, we have enough one-trick ponies on this Board.

I have been playing Halo online. (No, not just LAN … Online).

www.xbconnect.com

Download a small app to your PC and hook a cat5 between PC and XBox… It couldn’t be easier. I have played on LAN before and with two people using DSL there was no difference at all in response time (no lag at all).

It rocks.

Mouthbreather… the one we used was the Gamespy Arcade service, found here: http://www.gamespyarcade.com/support/tunnel_xbox.shtml

I’ll have to try the online app you guys are talking about. That must be alot of fun. It must be chaos (but good chaos) with 5+ Master Chiefs running around. Should we start another thread talking about the multiplayer variants we like playing?

I think the Xbox is the least likely candidate in the console wars to survive. Microsoft is already talking about releasing a new version of the Xbox with cheaper parts, because they are losing way too much money on the Xbox.

The Xbox seems to be doing okay in the US, but in Europe and Japan it is being ridiculed. This will result in the fact that most game-developers will stop developing for Xbox, because the market will be just too small. As soon as the developers stop creating software for it, Microsoft will have to cut its losses and leave the console-arena.

Just my two (I feel quite well-informed) cents.

HOWEVER : if the Xbox still exists in one year time, has good games (there are only a handful of good games at this moment) and has sold a few million consoles, I will definately buy one, because it is quite a nice system.

If the X-box doesn’t make it through the next year, it wouldn’t be because it wasn’t a powerful system or had strong games. Any failure would be due to a large anti-Microsoft mentality. I’m not saying people are right or wrong to feel this way; it would just suck to see so much fun go to waste.

No, it will most definitely not convince me to buy an XBox. I bought a PS2 around 4 months ago, and have not had a single pang of regret . . . even with the price drop. It’s a great system with many quality games from which to choose.

After supporting Microsoft’s horribly written, insecure server and client-side products for years, i couldn’t possibly feel “right” about supporting them in any of their ventures. Plus, as vinryk stated, I can’t help but to think that the forced price drop will ultimately be the XBox’s death knell.

I’m sure some people get sick of “Microsoft bashing” . . . hell, even I get sick of hearing it. But I’m coming from an experienced point of view, and besides . . . it’s just my 2 cents. Don’t get all upset.

ack. Apparently I put my username in the subject field. At least it wasn’t my password.

I don’t think it is as much an anti-Microsoft feeling (although this does have a big effect) but more the fact that they are a new player on the Market. Sony and Nintendo have proven themselves worthy by being in the market for a long time.

Also the fact that most systems running Microsoft software aren’t the fastest or most stable kids on the block, doesn’t help. At this time you can choose between two new systems, which haven’t proven anything yet or the Playstation 2, which has a very large install-base at this time.

Because the Playstation 2 has such a large install-base they are guaranteed to get the most games developed. And games are the most important thing, not the Brake Horse Power of the console. I think this is one of the most important reasons the Playstation 2 is doing so much better than the Gamecube and the Xbox.

If Microsoft has enough will to keep losing money and keep investing in software developers they have a sporting chance in Europe and the US. In Japan they have no chance in hell to win. The console is too big for most Japanese houses, too expensive and most-importantly not-Japanese. Sony and Nintendo will be the winners in that market, without any doubt.

I read the xbox has a HD that makes a HD noise &you may not want to listen to that when
you are playing dvd flicks, right? It wouldn’t matter to me. What would make me buy an xbox is a
mod, but such a mod is not out just yet.

Damn, I just wrote out this whole post and something got hosed when I submitted it.

To recap; it was great planning on Sony’s part to include backwards compatibility with the PS2. If I was Microsoft (I would take over the world!!!) I would have bought the chipset for the Dreamcast and made the X-box with the ability to play Dreamcast games (killed before it’s time).

The final test for the current lineup of consoles will be the next holiday season. I think I will have to bet the Gamecube will be the first to fold. IMHO, no hate for the 'cube, just an opinion.

For the games being made, I’ve heard that it is easier for game to be created for the X-box over all. This is part of the reason Marrowind is being put out on PC and X-box only.

When I say I like my X-box, I am not saying I don’t like the PS2 or Gamecube. The potential for the X-box is big, hopefully it can be realized.

Microsoft intended to drop their price first, from what I understand. The Sony announcement was a surprise to everyone. MS isn’t following Sony’s lead; Sony sw the competition and wanted to beat it while it has a chance.

When XBox is still kickin’ and PS3 comes out, then we’ll see.

MWA HA HA HA

Can you point me to where you heard that?
