X-Men First Class (unboxed spoilers)

Finally got to see it last night.

He and his people like her came in and wiped out the people who were treating her and hers like shit even though they normals needed the mutants. For those who couldn’t see this there was even a really clumsy scream by the guard outside their door saying, basically, “Take the freaks and do what you want just let us normal people live!”

Umm…everyone on the beach was offered the choice. Join the guy who says “humans are basically good, Bambi” or join the guy who says “we just saved their asses, and both sides, who were seconds away from killing each other a few minutes ago, hate and fear us so much that they’re willing to just start shooting without even trying to talk to us”

Anyway, from the reviews I’d seen I was expecting to say ‘Eh, it was enjoyable enough’. Instead I was pretty happy with it. January Jones has a nice body and a face that does absolutely nothing for me.

My biggest complaint was the hair on Mystique and Azazael. Just looked like a plastic helmet. Clearly, if that’s my biggest complaint I must have been pretty happy with it.

Actually, I thought he made a very persuasive argument. If I had been standing on that beach, I’m not sure which of them I would have gone with.

I totally agree. “I help you and you screw me? Well fuck you, then!” is a very common reaction for people. There just typically aren’t missiles involved.

I re-watched the movie Saturday night; it absolutely WAS her, I was looking for it. IMDb [strike]doesn’t[/strike] finally shows an “uncredited” credit for her, but I’m convinced.

I don’t know how it can be in question. It was definitely her.

Since a sequel seems likely… anyone want to take a bet on which historical event it will play into?

Finally saw it. I agree it was a really good movie. Certainly holding up well for the fifth movie in the franchise and raising expectations for the next two.

Others have mentioned the miniskirts and I felt it was just one part of overly gratuitous fan-service. Do CIA professionals really wear miniskirts? Did every female character have to strip down to her underwear at some point in the movie? Did they need to set a scene in a strip club? And, for God’s sake, who thought it would be a good idea to have a ten year old character do a supposed nude scene?

Yes. Yes they did.

I enjoy seeing Rose Byrne take off her clothes as much as the next fanboy.

But seriously. Moira MacTaggert is supposed to be a CIA officer watching an American Army officer meeting with some suspected foreign agents.

Then, out of the blue, a bunch of women in lingerie enter the building. So MacTaggert decides to go “undercover” and takes off her dress. And underneath she just happens to be wearing a black bra and panties with a matching garter belt - you know, routine stake-out attire. And then she spends the next ten minutes investigating the meeting in this outfit.

American Pie would have been embarrassed by a scene that silly.

The Hellfire Club, with women dressing that way, has been a part of the X-Men for decades. It was completely in keeping with how things have been written.

Not sure I remember the supposed nude scene.

At the beginning of the movie when Charles discovered Raven in the kitchen. She transformed into her natural appearance.

I remember it happening. The ins and out of it and possible inappropriateness never occurred to me.

Because it’s a word, not just a supervillain.

This movie has been in heavy rotation on HBO lately and I’ve gotta say it doesn’t hold up to multiple viewings. I enjoyed it the first time, but upon seeing it a few more times I dislike it more and more. This article conveniently articulates most of the worst criticisms I have about this movie so I don’t have to, but I agree completely with every word of it.

Apparently, the sequel has a name now. Its going to be called Days of Future Past

This kind of fills me with dread if I’m honest. They are going to take one of the most popular x-men stories, and crowbar it into the continuity shambles that the X-franchise has become. A film set in the 60s-70s, but then going forward to the future really isn’t going to help

Many of the comments on that article are complaining how wildly inconsistent the film is with the comics, but I have to admit not caring much about that. First Class, however, is wildly inconsistent with the other movies, and that annoys me.

Just watched this movie the other night and I have a question regarding it, didn’t think it was worth starting a whole new thread though.

Anyway, at the big climatic scene the mutants are on the beach and the human military are about to unleash several hundred tons of high-explosive megadeath on them, the mutants are all looking suitable worried except…we already know they have a teleporter there who can transport at least several other people with him.

If he can’t take them all then he at least shouldn’t look particularly worried as he can just teleport away before impact.

Am I missing something? (always a distinct possibility)

Fun movie though and as a Cold War buff I liked the whole Cuban Missile Crisis tie-in (although the diagrams of the US and USSR exchanging missiles across the Atlantic did destroy my suspension of disbelief for a moment…I know, of all things…)

He’s not the big dog. Magneto is, and he’s not leaving without him. Well, he’d rather not. I also doubt he’d stay just to get smooshed, but he wasn’t happy that the new boss might get all blowed up.

And, I totally did not recognize the actress who played Raven when I saw Hunger Games.

Ah, that would explain it, thanks.

Actually Magneto doesn’t remind me of someone who would run away in that situation anyway, and I can’t remember if he was even aware of the teleporters capabilities at that point.

On the other hand, Brian Singer is returning to direct it now. Which is cool.

The magic metal telepathy blocking helmet Magneto steals from the villain is a major plot point in the movie, including the climax where Xavier barely breaks through with all his might. This object seems like it would be memorable right?

Nope in the first X-men movie Xavier acts shocked that Magneto has a telepathy blocking helmet, he even apologizes for not knowing about it which allowed Magneto to get the drop on them.

:dubious:Please to be explaining this satisfactorily, without bringing up the wiz…
