X-men question: friends of Cyclops

Ok, I wasn’t sure whether this would be better placed in IMHO or CS, so I’m going to start here.

My question is simply this: did Cyclops of the X-men have any friends? I’ve been away from the comics for a while, but from what I remember, and from the movies in general, it didn’t really seem like he did. And by “friend” I don’t mean people he’s romantically involved with (so Emma Frost and Jean Grey are out), but people he might hit up a pub with, or things of that nature.

I can’t think of anyone, personally. Does anyone else have any ideas?

In general, he always seemed to be closer to the older members of the team (pre-“Giant Sized X-Men”) like Beast, Angel, etc. Whether he has any civilian friends is another story…

I have this vague memory of an issue of X-men that showed Cyclops double-dating with Iron Fist, their dates being Misty Knight and Colleen Wing. Not that any of those three are “civilians” but they’re at least outside the X-group.

Maybe it was Marvel Team-Up. I’m sure Arcade was the villain in the issue…

Well, I do know that he grew up an orphan after his parents died, then was pretty much recruited by Prof. X. So he probably doesn’t have the best social skills to make friends. And any friends he might have had in the orphanage he would have left when he became an X-Men, and from there on out, it was mostly work relationships, and the occaisional romatic one.

Very likely, but that’s not because he and Iron Fist were pals. Rather, Colleen and Misty were and they brought their dates along one evening. Colleen and Cyclops dated for a while before he and Jean got involved IIRC. (I believe that prior to her incarnation as the Phoenix, Scott’s love for Jean had always been unrequited.)

Although I didn’t read where it happened, I assume Scott met Colleen because Jean and Misty shared an apartment.

Recently it appears that he and Wolverine are becoming friends (prior to Whedons run anyway which I havent read yet because my gorram subscription somehow missed including issue 2 & 5)

Other than that the only people I can think of is Warren (Angel), Storm and Kurt (nightcrawler) , but that appears to be more of a necessity being the leaders of the other X-Men teams.

It would appear that he tries to set himself apart from the rest of the members due to the fact that he has to be their leader and doesnt want to muddy the waters.

Moving thread to Cafe Society.

The Claremont stories usually included some of the X-Men’s non-superhero friends, although most of them wound up gaining super powers (Corsi & Friedlander) or working for the Xavier institute in some capacity (Stevie Hunter, the Mutant Underground).

There was a Grant Morrison story that showed Cyclops visiting the Hellfire Club, redefined as an exclusive gentleman’s club where mutants good and evil could leave their affiliations at the door and socialize. It brought to mind an old Peter David X-Factor storyline that showed the origin of a slang term among mutants (referring to non-mutants as “flatscans”) and how it spread through the mutant community even to the heroes; the connecting link was Quicksilver, with the implication that he socialized with Evil Mutants on his off-hours. It seemed like a particularly deft bit of characterization.

I kind of doubt it, overall. Scott’s always seemed to me to be a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, stuffed shirt, boy scout type who tended to bottle up EVERYTHING until it was ready to explode rather than kicking back occasionally with like-minded friends to drain the stress away gradually. Most of my memories of Cyclops usually involve him being either grim and stoic or raging and explosive.
