Anyone remember the old comic book ads that sold X-Ray Specs (usually for about 10 cents) that promised the wearer could see through clothing and flesh? (The cartoon in the ad showed a guy seeing the bones in his hand.) My question is, how did these things work? Obviously, for 10 cents you weren’t getting anything other than an illusion, but what did the wearer see? How did they simulate both nude female bodies as well as metatarsels? Any of the Teeming Millions ever order these things? I notice when you Google on X-Ray Specs, those that have experienced them won’t share…I guess they’re bitter over losing a dime.
