Xanadu

At the risk of hijacking the thread, Flash Gordon was a far superior film. It was filled with talented people deliberately going way over the top. They could have made an understated, serious film with in depth characters you really cared about had they wanted to. Instead, they chose to crank everything as high as it could possibly go. Considering that the film is still remembered and loved, it seems they made the right choice.

I agree with my brother in Mad Science. For its time there was nothing out there like it. It’s held up pretty well: it’s one of my grandson’s favorite movies, and he’s seen it over a dozen times.

On a similar note (), somebody here tipped me off about this group. I was reminded of the video and had to watch it again.

There’s the same kind of thing in this song from Fiddler on the Roof, starting at 4:20: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLTxj-kXhg0

Loved the movie when it came out (mostly for ELO), love the soundtrack, and I totally loved the Broadway version. I laughed until there were tears streaming down my face.

I have the opportunity this year to use some free theater tickets to see a production of it. I’ve never seen the movie, but what do you think? Should I go? I could use the tickets on another show but they are only good for one season and nothing else at this particular theater seems that interesting to me, other than Xanadu.

I saw the touring company’s big-budget performance and it was fun. I’d see the movie first, if you get the chance, though.

The stage show makes fun of the movie, and makes fun of the entire decade of the 80s for that matter. If you haven’t seen the movie and haven’t lived through the 80s, it might be kind of meh for you.

Its a guilty pleasure. I have 2 of the songs as MP3s.

I fully expect someone to come along and say, “…you know you’re dating yourself”.
My reply- “…well, its safer that way…”
