Xbox 360 Digital audio problems with HD LCD

Howdy,

I’ve got my 5.1 receiver/system hooked up, and all speakers sound fine on test tones. I have my xbox hooked up to my HD LCD TV, and can hear and see Xbox activities just fine through the TV speakers.

What I’m not getting is any TV/Xbox audio through my receiver. The only input I’m trying to have into the receiver is an optical digital audio cable. I tried running the digital audio cable from the TV to the receiver…nothin’. I tried running the digital audio cable from the HD AV cable adaptor on the Xbox…nothin’.

What am I doing wrong? Do I need to route my Xbox video through my receiver then to my TV? That doesn’t make much sense, as my receiver is not set up for HD video, but I’m running out of ideas.

I don’t see why you’d need to run the video through the receiver. I don’t have HD, but I do have 5.1 digital audio. I have the fibre optic cable running direct to the receiver.

Questions:

Do you have the receiver set to the correct input (probably “video 2” or similar)?

Do you have the reciever setup to play the digital input rather than looking for an analogue input?

Will the receiver play other 5.1 digital sources such as from a DVD player?

What connections do you have to the TV? Is there a seperate audio and video or is it an all in one?

Just had a look through the Xbox 360 manual. Try it without the audio connected to the TV and make sure digital 5.1 is selected in the Xbox audio setup.

My bad.

I was mistaken in thinking my receiver had a digital input port. It only has a digital video input, which is where I had my optical cable plugged in. :smack:

Everything seems to be working fine now with analog, though my receiver volume has to be close to max before I can hear anything.

Time to get a new receiver I guess.
