XBox or PS2, which is better?

I am brainstorming ideas for my hubby for Christmas, what do you get the man who has everything (namely me)?
Answer: Something childishly amusing.

He currently likes to play games like Diablo and Everquest (although he is not on EQ anymore).

Which would you recommend? It would also be played by our daughter, who is almost 4.

PS2 seems ALOT cheaper, why?

There aren’t many games like Diablo and Everquest on any of the consoles. If he likes that sort of thing maybe he would enjoy World of Warcraft for the PC?

The PS2 is a lot cheaper because Sony is on the verge of releasing it’s new system, the PS3. The current XBox – the 360 – is new technology like the PS3, that’s why it’s more expensive. Nintendo is also releasing a new system for Christmas called the Wii.

There’s a huge selection of games available for the PS2 now, but there will be very few new PS2 games released past the end of 2006. However the PS3 is very expensive and it’s probably not worth it since he’s not a hardcore gamer who cares about being the first on a new system.

Personally I’d go with a Wii. It’s the cheapest of the systems and will have some great games – Nintendo’s quality is consistently high. It will also be the most child-friendly of the systems and that’s a factor if your daughter will be playing it too.

Another vote for the Wii here – the innovative motion-sensing controls alone are worth the (relatively minor) investment. You can also play the current generation of Nintendo Gamecube titles on it, so there’s a decent base of games to choose from. And if your husband’s a video-game player from the '80s, he’ll appreciate the Wii’s ability to buy and play his childhood favorites.
