Dunno about the rest of you but this makes me pretty excited.
I know it rarely pays to get all hyped up so let’s just say I am cautiously optimistic.

…Of course there’s a guy with a katana.
Why wouldn’t there be? I hear all the SWAT teams are throwing out their guns in favor of crappy medieval swords these days.
Looked more like some sort of goofy machete to me.
Anyway, I require more details before I have too much to say about this. Though the fact that they’re doing procedurally generated levels this time is nice.
I the Avenger back. And multiple bases.
and a pony.
Am I going to have to research lasers and plasma weapons again?
Looks like we lost the war. Cool new snake alien thingy though. I really loved the original, and the reboot as well (though I damn the folks who put me onto Long War, which I STILL haven’t been able to beat!), so yeah…cautiously optimistic. I think the tactical combat in XCOM-EW/EU are some of the best out right now, but they need to work on the strategic part of the game IMHO. The nice thing is supposedly this will be out in November, so I don’t have to wait being teased for several years before getting my hands on the game.
(Can’t wait to see if the much anticipated Fallout 4 will be announced as well)
Well, crap. I guess I should get around to playing the first one.
I’m thinking they go from the “EXALT succeeded” timeline. Checking how many Ironman attempts to save the Earth I’ve attempted, there are at least 67 universes where that is the case :D.
Same here. It is sitting in the Steam Account of Shame and has been for some time.
It took me 45 times to beat Enemy Unknown. That was last week. I’m playing Skyrim as a break before tackling Enemy Within.
Damned Ethereals ALWAYS mind-control my Heavy Weapons guys.
IGN has a good article up about it:

Well, with built-in Steam workshop support, you can expect the pony in less than a week after release.
I am thoroughly excited. Bear in mind, I was an X-Com fanatic back in the early 90s. In fact, when this news broke, people I’d known from High School posted it my Facebook wall.
I am also totally in favor of XCom melee units.
Seriously, I think Firaxis blew the remake out of the park. Was it perfect? Nope. Was it the closest thing we were going to get? Definitely. Plus, I am very excited at what looks like a more moddable game, since it adds a ton to replay (see: The Long War mod for XCom).
I hope the PC-exclusiveness of it makes them realize who their target audience is and gets us away from the casualization of it. I want deeper character customization - 4 classes with two choices per tier, often with one choice not even being viable, and with minimal stat differences was just not enough to make my soldiers feel unique. I want deeper choices of action instead of just “move 2, or move 1 fire 1” - I want stuff like snap shots, aimed shots, different ways to interact with cover. More inventory management and types of equipment.
The first one was easy to master because it was so simple - after a few missions you’d pretty much have a complete understanding of the tactics of the game - but break those actions up into more options and more complex options and it would be a lot more tactically satisfying.
Modding support will help a lot even if they’re unwilling to do it properly in the main game. The original was very limited in that they modded by modifying underlying XML files without much real control over the game - and some of the mods did an amazing job with what little they had to work with - but if they give a solid engine an good moddability, someone will come up with the tactically deep, genuinely customizable squad some of us are looking for.
it will probably be more useful than a SHIV as well.
Have you tried the Long War mod? It may not cover all your wishes but helps a fair bit in getting what you are asking for (for instance there is a LOT more customization of your squad).
But at least 73% less cute.
One thing that sounds interesting is that since stealth plays such a big role, you’ll have much finer control over soldier movement. You can make them follow a specific path instead of just going point to point in the shortest route.
Coincidentally, that’s the same percentage that the SHIV would be destroyed on it’s first mission.
but then you won’t have an excuse for your soldiers walking through clouds of poison :smack:
