xkcd thread

Thing I learned: There’s a Flat Mars Society Facebook page.

There’s a new feature appearing in the upper right of the airplane countdown timer (complete sequence of images here). Palm tree? Talon? Tentacle?

I’ve suspected for a while that the plane wouldn’t be in flight, but held by some sort of giant monster. Not sure why I’ve suspected that, and of course I can’t document my suspicions, but…

Perhaps the flag flying from the front of the plane has a message on it.

Maybe it’s a raptor tail.

Snakes on a plane?

Could be. Randall’s fear of velociraptors has been a topic of several comics.

Too big to be a velociraptor (unless that’s a particularly small airliner, with three teeny-tiny jet engines per wing). More likely a T Rex.

Okay, I’ll buy t-rex.

He’s coming to Chicago to steal Sue!

Sleuths have figured out the reveal. Don’t peek if you want to be surprised. (This is real, not a joke.)

What If? Vol 2 is now listed on Amazon. The airplane with a dino riding is on the cover.

I’m guessing a 737 and those are the trailing-edge flap fairings.

We should see the engines soon.

Half the engine is now visible:

And it’s been officially announced:

Sept 13th? That’s such an early teaser it’s frustrating rather than enticing.

The alt-text is supposed to be 6 rows of squares, but the OneWord software messes that up. I’m not sure what the text at the top “placeble 228 x/6” is supposed to be.

Placeble…

If you hit the share button on regular Wordle, you get text like that. For example 228 3/6 for Wordle would mean, this is puzzle 228 and it took the person three tries out of six.

ETA: I’m not sure if this part was confusing or not. placeble = placebo + wordle

Thanks for the info.

No I hadn’t caught that, although I did wonder about that word. Sometimes the guy can be pretty subtle.

How many people checked their browser zoom settings when they first saw today’s comic? It’s HUGE.
