Had I really wanted to have my opinions exposed to reason by the razor-sharp minds of the Doper community, I **would ** have opened a slightly more balanced thread in GD. But that would be too much like hard work and I’d still have had to open a Pit thread just to tell xtisme how much of a pompous dick he is at times.
Ah. So, would it be accurate to say that you never expected your initial post in GD to generate any real debate, and only placed it there as an excuse to open a pit thread and invite the Teeming Millions to stop by and heap abuse on you?
I’d be satisfied if my mentioning of the book only gained it one more reader. I think it is an important and informative book. You are entitled to believe differently, despite you having never read it. I’ve seen how headache-inducing it is trying to convince a die-hard skeptic( Funnily enough, they never seem to be too skeptical when the sources agree with their world view.) to accept information contrary to their beliefs, endlessly and anally going over and over petty details. Life’s too short for that shit.

Instead, you chose to open your thread in the Pit, which is pretty telling. It’s also telling that you waited until the 4th page to get around to what you REALLY wanted to say…which was to call me a pompous dick.
Next time don’t pussyfoot around…just say what you mean. And if you REALLY want to have a discussion/debate, then next time try manning up and opening your thread in GD.

This was the thread which really got me hooked on the SDMB, for which you have my thanks. You steadfastly resist and blunder about as poster after poster tries to explain simple high school level Newtonian physics to you. This was the first time I noticed your user name; when I read the thread, I was not aware that you were a bigoted conspiracy theory mongering antisemitic ass hat. Of course, as I read more of your posts about 9/11, aliens, and most of all the Jooooos, I found them all the more amusing in light of your demonstrated scientific illiteracy. In all fairness, this may demonstrate your ignorance rather than your stupidity. However, when an admitted ignoramus insists that their asinine conspiracy theories are scientifically correct, that’s stupidity.
As you say, in fairness I suppose this might not be intuitive (it is to me, but then I had high school physics…it’s not intuitive to some friends of mine, however, who were surprised when they demonstrated this concept on Mythbusters). Ignorance doesn’t necessarily equal stupidity…it’s just a lack of knowledge.
I never saw that thread, but it did seem to be taking a lot of effort to get what I’d say is a basic concept across to him. Of course, I remember a couple of GQ threads I started that quickly devolved into various 'dopers demonstrating that, despite 3 years of college physics I’m pretty ignorant too.

Whenever you hear someone say something like this, you can with 100% confidence know they’re an idiot. Every time.
Basically, the logic goes “Skeptic’s claim to be interested in the truth. I know aliens/telepathy/exploding anuses are real, and they refuse to accept my evidence, therefore they aren’t really interested in the truth and are as hard headed as anyone else!”
Seriously, 100%. One of the most sure things in the world.
I do enjoy how he keeps telling us about how we’re making fools of ourselves, even though no one has even remotely defended him and everyone has joined in to mock him further. I’m curious as to who he thinks we’re making fools of ourselves to.
