“Sherlock Holmes once said that once you have eliminated the
impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be
the answer. I, however, do not like to eliminate the impossible.
The impossible often has a kind of integrity to it that the merely improbable lacks.”
– Douglas Adams’s Dirk Gently, Holistic Detective
I would love to be in the Big Apple for New Year’s Eve but I’m going to be celebrating the new year in the Little Apple… Manhattan, Kansas. Doesn’t that sound exciting! (sarcastic) Have a great New Year!
OK, it took a little while for me to get back to this, but for the curious:
The party was terrific. Small (call it 60 to 80), but since I don’t like crowds, that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. I didn’t have time to burn in the music I wanted, but the folks at Tower Records were more than happy to trade several great compilations from different periods for several hundred of my dollars. The music tilted towards the 30’s to 50’s, and the, uh, more mature folks at the soiree had a nice trip down memory lane while the youngins danced.
I received several RSVPs from Dopers, but (and you just knew this was gonna happen) my email return server had problems and I was unable to re-reply. So to those who missed it because they were uncertain that I had received an RSVP, please accept my humble apologies.
I didn’t see any dopers in attendance, but hey, I had about 20 beers, so what do I know? If you were there, I hope you had as good a time as I did, and I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet you. If you weren’t, I’m doing it again for Y3K, so I’ll start a new thread then.
If anybody is doing something similar to celebrate the actual new millennium, let me know.
I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids!
