ya gotta love Ricky Gervais

Last night comic relief was on BBC1. It’s a big teleton.

It’s full of comedy clips and also very serious reports with crying celebs in Africa or a deprived part of the UK talking to the locals.

Here’s Ricky’s contribution. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-ia__1d_rM

For the people who may not know, the guy eating the fast-food BTW is a celeb cook, Jamie Oliver, who ran a very successful campaign to remove fast-food from school canteens.

There are also some other surprise guests.

No love for Ricky?

I laughed and laughed and laughed.

Very, very clever.

My favourite line was Jamie Oliver’s: “whenever I have to pretend to be upset about some fat chav…”
 I wasn’t taken in by the spoof bit. You could tell it was blue screen, and the script was much too corny - hardly anyone ever uses those earnest clichés seriously any more, and coming from someone like Ricky Gervaise it could only be parody.

I loved the self-mocking banter with Oliver, Geldof and Bono, but thought the Merchant gags were lame.

I’m not sure I remember who Andy Peters is…
Is he havin’ a laugh? Is HE havin’ a laugh?

I hear he turned down another season of “Extras”

Yeah he’s gonna end it with a special and that will be the end of it.

I like the way he is constantly moving. Hit series, a sure fuck it I’ll do some stand up, another series, the most successful podcast ever, more stand up and now what next?

I love that about him. I think he’s one of the funniest people alive, and I’m ecstatic that he hasn’t sold out to act like a buffoon in a silly bad American movie. (see Alexie Sayle’s rant about this phenomenon in, IIRC, an episode of The Young ones)
